Hagel has probably never bitten his tongue in his entire life as much as he did yesterday, but he kept his eyes on the prize and didn't step on any landmines. However, I wish that when Graham asked him to name a member of the Senate that is under the influence of the Israel lobby, he had told him to look in the mirror and he'll see one. That would have been epic regardless of the fallout.

After the hearing, I began to think that maybe the concern of the Senate R's has less to do with policy and more to do with their knowledge that Chuck Hagel, is possibly, an incompetent buffoon.

Possibly.
You have to wonder why they even bother with confirmation hearings for guys like Kerry and Hagel. They're very well known quantities.

Thing I noticed most is McCain looked much more comfortable in this role vs GOP nominee for POTUS

I believe McCain is setting himself up in the "elder statesman/defender of the military" role.
