Jacoby should not be allowed in the top half of the lineup until his discipline at the plate improves.

I see him as more of an OBP guy. Any guy who gets on base that often, with that many singles, needs to be hitting first in my opinion. I don't care if he's slow.

He is that, but he is also an RBI guy that can keep the lineup moving.

It's not the dumbest idea to put him leadoff, but batting him 4th also helps freshman Bregman see better pithes.

Also Rhymes hits lots of singles.
I'd rather see him at the plate with a runner on second, than him on first and anyone else at the plate.

1 – R - Raph Rhymes (DH) (.458)
2 – R - JaCoby Jones (2B) (.282)
3 – R - Mason Katz (RF) (.299)
4 – R - Ty Ross (C) (.287) (3rd highest returning BA & OBP behind Rhymes & Katz)
5 – L - Tyler Moore (1B) (.254)
6 – R - Alex Bregman (SS) (--)
7 – L/L/L - McMullen / Laird / Stevenson (LF) (-- / -- / --)
8 – R/R - Ibarra / Foster (3B) (-- / .184)
9 – L - Chris Sciambra (CF) (.263)

Using this lineup, I'd like to see something like...

1. Jones (batting leadoff and in front of good hitters should get him more fastballs)
2. Rhymes
3. Bregman/Katz
4. Katz/Bregman
5. Ross
6-9 will sort itself out

The main thing is, I think we can use the 2 hole as a more productive spot, use somebody that can actually get some hits, as opposed to someone whose main contribution is bunting the leadoff hitter over IF he gets on base.

I agree, but I'd like to see one of those lefties that are supposed to be so fast in the 2 spot to minimize the DP.
IF they can carry their weight with the bat of course.

Both Sciambra and Jacoby have been hitting the ball really well so far and Jacoby is hitting for power. I think having them at 2 and 6 are about right for the time being. If after the 3rd weekend or so they arent hitting then i can see shaking the lineup up but at this point in time i think he's got it right.

I agree, but let's not get everyone riled up too early in the preseason though!

Yea I like jones leading off as well. This will PROBABLY be his last year so he needs to step up and be a leader. Give him a month and if he still doesn't know how to lay off hitters put him in the 9 hole. He has to much potential on any given day to ever sit.

based on his history he:

has speed
has power
strikes out a lot.

Only one of those attributes works for a leadoff hitter. If he does improve his hitting i certainly dont want him batting leadoff. He needs to be driving people in. I honestly think leadoff is probably the worst spot for jacoby.

This! Plus, what good would it do to get Raph's single and then a fielder's choice because he's too slow? The advantages of a fast lead off make up for a lot of batting average points. When the lead is on first, as a real threat to run, the two hole's batting average and on base percentage is going up. Move Raph to lead off and your team batting average probably goes up, but your run production definitely goes down.

I can agree with that. It will change a dozen times in a dozen games, but one thing that should remain IMO is Rhymes, Bregman, Katz as 2,3,4 respectively. Of course this assumes Bregman has the type of year they expect in order to warrant a spot in the 3 hole.
