The easiest thing to do would be to stand aside and not try to block international law in Israel's favor. There has been talk about Palestine bringing up various issues with various international courts. We should let the judicial process play out as it was designed.
From there, we can talk about not fighting their wars or single-handedly paying for their military.

The biggest issue that I have with our propping up of Israel at the expense of the Palestinians is that our interests are not strategic. The difference between our strategic gains by backing Israel instead of Palestine might as well be insignificant. There are many nations in the Near East that are more important to our interests.
I'm not big on getting involved with the internal affairs of other states. With that said, if our only interest in Israel is a Wilsonian one, then we should allow Palestine the right to self-determination just like we do with the Israelis or any other state.

IMO, We would perhaps be a much stronger country internally and in regard to our foreign relations if we did adhere more to the Wilsonian philosophy/strategy.
I'm afraid it's more about the "dollar", and specifically, where it's channeled within our political system, not with the intention of strengthening our economy or any positive long term strategies for that matter.
Nonetheless, I believe the Palestinians should have the opportunity.

It would be great if the world worked like that, but unfortunately, it doesn't. The times when the great powers have relied too heavily on an idealist approach to foreign affairs, they have been burned.

There have been hints that Netanyahu's latest shenanigans might have been the final straw for Obama and he may abstain the next time Israel is on the UN's docket.
