When did Earl Clark become a SF? He was a Center at Louisville and was drafted as a PF. How is he any better than Aminu? If they were going this route, you might as well start Anderson at SF..

he's a classic case of not enough minutes to put up big per game stats. his per 36 and advanced #s are excellent he's the second best international of all time behind dirk

He's definitely more of a stretch 4 than he is a 3.

Yeah, we are already overloaded with PFs (Davis, Anderson, Smith, even Thomas is servicable) and Aminu would probably be a better fit at PF as well, so I don't get adding another PF or stretch 4. I'd rather see them get a slasher that can finish at the rim and hit the occasional 3. There just aren't any good/great ones hitting the free agent market. I had hoped Henry could be that guy, but he just hasn't shown it yet. I like Dorrell Wright, but he has fizzed out as well. Any chance Toronto may look to dump Derozan now that they picked up Gay and already have Ross and Fields?

Honestly, you could make the same argument for Aminu. That said, I think people are misusing "stretch 4" to lump in dissimilar players. Aminu's game is not stretching the floor, which is where you usually use your 3. We actually tend to use our PFs to stretch the floor. This gives Aminu space to crash the glass. The NBA is quickly evolving away from traditional rotations as coaches start to learn to fit skill sets together rather than judging each player individually by position. Monty and Dell have been doing a great job of this recently. We just don't have the depth for the second unit. I think Clark's outside shooting could actually work better with Davis/Lopez. You would have your spacer/shooter (Clark), your crasher/rebounder (Davis), and your muscle/post popper (Lopez). If you sub out with Aminu/Anderson/Smiht, you have your spacer/shooter (Anderson), your crasher/rebounder (Aminu), and your muscle/post popper (Smiht). I don't know what Dell and Monty plan to do, but Earl Clark isn't necessarily a bad fit because some people define him as a stretch 4.

DraftExpress called him a SF/PF and one of the more perimeter oriented players before the draft. Dude was never going to play C in the NBA. ESPN (Chad Ford) and NBADraft.net both listed him strictly as a SF. I've found several pre-draft sites that list him as a potential SF but not PF. I have yet to find a site that lists PF but not SF.

Ginobli is Argentinian; there are a lot of Argentinians with Italian surnames and to a lesser extent German as well. Ginobli probably comes from the Ginobili name that seems to be fairly common in Italy.
FTR, when I asked where did Ginobli's name come from, I meant how did he get into the discussion. Not the fricking derivation of his actual name. Did I miss something?

Well, I just assumed you were talking about his name origin because your question was in response to:
quote:
I haven't heard much mention of Ginobli, but could the SA connection somehow make that happen?
His name was brought up because he is an unrestricted free agent this summer and just so happens to provide almost exactly what we need. I think most have just ignored him as a FA because it is assumed that he is a lock to resign. It's weird that such a great player is generating so little FA buzz.

Really don't want Manu. We'd almost certainly overpay for him to be put out to pasture here.

I don't see what JayJay defending himself from ankle-biters has anything to do with this.

Bwahahaha, I say ankle-biters and 3 of them show up in succession. ETA - Souljah isn't as bad about the ankle-biting, but birds of a feather, ya know.

Lopez and Smiht arent really post bruisers/muscle. Smith is purely a pick and pop backup big. Thats why Aminu has been so important recently- he can cover their weakness on the glass. He just cant shoot from range or dribble. IMO, the end goal has to be getting Davis/Anderson on the court together. They need a 3 that complements those 2. To that end, I believe they need at least a good defender and a good rebounder (for a sf) in that spot. Ideally, the 3 should also be able to shoot enough that hitting a 3 isnt cause for a fap fest here and be at least something of a threat off the dribble. The sf isnt going to see many touches behind Gordon, Anderson, Davis Wilson.Chandler, if he stops being a chucker, is a very good fit. If Aminu could get to slightly below average from deep and not be a walking TO, he is very good fit too.

Center's in college don't mean Center's in the NBA and same goes for PF. Earl Clark's game wasn't going to be a 4 or 5. He was built bigger than most SF's but his real height is 6'8.5" according to most sites. He is listed at 6'10" but that's too big. the only downside to me is that because of his size, he has mismatch issues on defense. But the Hornets are playing with AD, Lopez, Smith, and Anderson as the big men. I think we could use Clark as a SF but rotate him in as a 4 sometimes, when needed.

I think we have a pretty realistic shot at him or brewer/budinger. All of those guys can shoot the 3 very well plus they all rebound decent enough I agree on aminu as well,if we can sign him to a reasonable rate and sign one of the three above we'll be good imo

That being said, take a look at the prospects in 2013. If the Hornets continue down this road, we will have a top 5 pick, once more. We can go after Alex Len, a TRUE Center.
