Thoughts on the term "green trout"........

It's an interesting term. As a kid, growing up in south La, but having parents from north La (and a camp up here), I thought the term was funny, and couldn't imagine how it came to be.
I now understand, as here's a text I got from a buddy a couple of days ago.....
"_____ and them ripped'em at the wall about a week or so ago. Had 23 specks over 3.0 pounds, and 15 or so smaller fish. Couple of reds too, and a green trout that weighed over 4."
If you grew up fishing Lake Catherine or Bayou Beinvenue, and caught a "green" fish every now and again, what else WOULD you call him but a "green trout".
How many folks here call them that regularly, and where did you learn to fish?
1. I do not call them that regularly.
2. I learned to fish on Black Lake outside of Campti, LA.

I really think it's of Chalmatian origin.

All of my older relatives said it.

I'm grew up in Northernest East Louisiana and I've heard them called green trout and choupique called cypress trout. I personally call them "Bugeyed Green Trout" in a derogatory manner.

negative ghost rider on the virus protection.
I really do think it came from the Chalmette area. Really, those places mentioned (Catherine/Bienvenue/Rigolets etc) may be one of the few places on Planet Earth where you can catch a bass on one cast, and a speck/red the next. I've never caught speck/bass or bass/speck, but have caught red/bass and bass/red several times.

Most of my relatives were from N. Louisiana and had no connection with S. LA at all. All of them said green trout.

Grew up on the Northshore and never heard it before this board.
I thought people said it tongue in cheek like calling gaftops "tourist trout".
