There is a limit on assisstant coaches. Someone will have to move on or be let go in order for a new hire to be made. We won't know who unless a change is actually made.

I commented in an earlier thread that Ensminger is going to be reassigned to BBQ duty and paid directly by TAF.

this exact scenario has been kicked around a few times before, though not with anyone heaping such praise on Stud's OL coaching (fwiw I think he's ok and wouldn't mind keeping him in that capacity).

we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out.

They don't get used b/c they're not very good. When's the last time we had a TE drafted? R Dickson is the last TE we had worth a damn.

They are average. Deangelo "No contact" Peterson is good example.

I love that BBQ reference. Even after seeing it about 1,000 times, I never get tired of reading it. Please post it more.

Kragthorpe is the lynchpin not Stud or Ensminger. There aren't a whole lot of OC/OL or OC/TE coach's available. The reshuffle would be something like this:
Kragthorpe to admin role
Stud: back to OLine (if he stays)
NEW OC/QB Coach

How many drops did Chris Clement have to have before people would criticize him? I get it, he can supposedly block, but his whole career he must have attended the same catching school as Shep.

How many times did he knock an opposing LB on his arse?

If you want a Lamont Hall, don't play him like a Tony Gonzalez. Also, there is a minimum amount of competence catching the ball one has to have to play TE. We have Copeland and we don't run off tackle enough for him to offset his limitations, IMO. I know our Thibodaux/Houma people love him, but the simple fact is that he had some rather large holes in his game. So it isn't a great argument to say our TEs are fine, we didn't use them.

Not necessarily.

There's multiple changes that can occur that wouldn't involve Krags moving on (which I personally believe won't happen).

No guarantee Stud will take a demotion, if Ensminger moves on then TE can be coached by WR or OL coach. It's possible both Stud and Ensminger could be replaced.

Also the guy rumored to take over as OC has worked with multiple QB coaches at his last coaching stop. I think Les values Krag too much to let him leave this staff.

I just don't believe Miles will eliminate a position coach, split those duties, and hire an OC only. It would be tantamount to him hiring someone to be "offensive head coach". I just don't see him ceding that much authority to one individual.
I'm not sure if anyone in college football has an offensive coordinator that only serves in that capacity.

Les is going around the limit on assistant coach's rule by just appointing a OC Czar, problem solved.

Haha, we didn't play him like Tony Gonzalez. We threw him the ball about once every other game.

I never said our TE are fine. Like everyone else, I am excited to see if we can use Smith as a true pass-catching TE like we have not had since Dickson, at least. I just don't think Clement was this massive waste of space like many others do.

Let's just chill out a minute and look at the offensive cast of characters and what they bring to the table:

1. Krags is the annointed one or so they say. He was supposed to help JJ develop and we all know how that worked out. He has one of the worst QB's in the country now in terms of escapability so it is what it is. The play calling and creativity is poor at best. Not to mention the guy is in declining health. I thought he was going to work out but he hasn't. If he's listed as the offensive coordinator he is doing a terrible job.

2. Stud is coach of the offensive line. That's about where he needs to be. Enough said. He's good and should be stable at his current highest level of competency. Any higher and we're screwed (IMHO).

3. Ensminger is coach of the tight ends and I really don't know what else he does besides sit on the sidelines and watch the game and make sure the players are accounted for. If we are supposed to develop tight ends as receivers I haven't seen it in my 50 something years of watching LSU football. Let's all remember Ensminger was offensive coordinator at ATM once upon a time so he brings more to the table than how to teach a tight end to block. He was also a QB and probably helps a bit out there as well. I'm sure he is utilized more than we think/know.

Summary: Krags needs to go. We need an OC who knows how to move the football down the field besides throwning out patterns and slants along with 3 yards and a cloud of dust runs up the middle. Shep on a reverse would have been nice in 2012 or a lateral pass and then bomb down field. Just too generic and boring. Probably won't happen but if it does LSU will once again be national championship caliber. Right now our offense is not even top 100 material....

Krags is not listed as OC, Stud is. Supposedly, Krags & Stud design the game plan and Stud calls the plays.
ETA: Ensminger handles O line subs during the game. I've read on here that he's Les's paperwork guy. Whatever that means.

so now we rate our QB coach on escapability? I think having a LT playing LT instead of a LG would help. Remember he also Coached J Lee, and Mett developed down the stretch.
