And I'm not knocking them. I'm just saying they've always been decent players w potential. Which the FO deserves props for projecting

So basically GV is par for his per 36 numbers? He was asked to score on a bad team?

Aminu led the acc in rebounding, that's not an astounding stat for him. He shoots high percentage dunks and put backs.

Seems like a by product of more minutes to me. Both players always projected to be decent if they got PT

I think Greivis has far-outperformed his expectations for this season...even the expectations of those of us that were advocates for him...do you disagree?

are you not a Monty fan?

so you don't see these increases in stats as an improvement?

I said last season GV would produce given the minutes. He's always been a decent player when given minutes. We could see that last season.

And I like Monty. He makes questionable calls sometimes and has been called out accordingly. I can't decide if he's tetering the line of tanking or he is just not good at rotations sometimes. Basically, he shouldn't be free of criticism. This coming from an message board analyst though. I'd love for 42 to break down exactly what he's done.

Increase in minutes = increase in stats. 42 games into his career, basically. Not ready to crown anyone either way.

I just don't think there is a direct verdict on MW's coaching skills

i like the guy...but it's a fair point that he hasn't proven anything...he's well below .500.

talent and injuries aren't always an excuse...that may not be fair, but that's the way it is in the league.

for some, he can do no wrong.

I thought GV would be good...wanted to make him full time starter and be done with Jack.

...but he surpassed my expectations. the double-doubles and near triple-doubles have been impressive.

Meh. Typical message board hyperbole one way or the other. The guy has show promise under adverse conditions. Let's give him another year and then we'll evaluate. Oh, wait . . . that's not fun.

i don't think anyone is calling for Monty to be fired, maybe with an exception or two

Everything boils down to message board hyperbole on this board, honestly

I just don't care for revisionist history or grand proclamations. Monty has had a lot of challenges, but that's to be expected and he's done alright. But he hasn't done anything to blow me away. I think they'll finish out the year pretty strong and there will be some big moves made this summer. If the team doesn't make a big run next year, then something will have to change. That's the nature of the beast..

I'd rather see him start winning then see him fired.

I've been out drinking at my neighborhood bar with friends, and I'm killing time waiting for my wife to get home. Do you have another excuse for posting on Hornets Talk on a Saturday evening?

Excuse me sir. You post on here wayyy more than I do. I usually look forward to your insight. I can't believe you are on the give Monty a pass train too. Unbelievables.

Oh and btw, I'm home with my wife and kids trying to figure out why Monty is a great coach. Maybe I'm not as cool as you.

Oh, I gotcha. I thought this was your attempt to belittle me like most of the douche bags do on here when you don't agree with their opinion. Enjoy your beer.

Almost any player in the NBA should show improvement like GV has on a per 40 basis. If not, they aren't in the NBA anymore.

His per 36 last year read

12/8/4 on 43% shooting and 32% 3p

He's playing 34 mpg this season and averaging 14/9/4 on 44% FG and 38% 3p.

Numbers are pretty similar.

I guess Monty taught him how to shoot 3s. Monty was a career 11% 3 point shooter after all.

How much does the head coach teach? How much does assistant coaches teach? How much does a player practice on his own?

I feel like a hc's main job is Xs and Os, personnel, roster, lineups, etc.
