I have gone from hating it to ok with it....Ryan as DC that is.

I have mixed emotion about it. Of course, if the hire him, I'll be all in because its what I do. But right now, I question it. I just don't want to get caught in the "anyone but Ryan" mode and accept someone like Tomsula or Grantham just because of that. Not that it matters to the Saints what I think.

right on. Mickey asks for our advice but I think it's more just to humor us than thinking we can decide who's the best fit out of the names we have heard

Just what I thought...

I did root for the 49ers because of my respect for how Harbaugh ran his organization, now...frickem

In the aftermath of the announcement from Saints coach Sean Payton that the team would be shifting from a 4-3 defense to a 3-4 front, it was reported that former Browns and Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel was on the short list to replace Steve Spagnuolo.

It appeared on the surface to be a great idea. Crennel and Payton have common ties tracing to Bill Parcells, and Crennel isn’t the kind of guy about whom Payton would have to worry running a bounty system or otherwise doing anything that comes close to breaking the rules.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, however, Crennel isn’t among the finalists for the job. In fact, we’re told that Crennel was never even contacted.

nothing new blueslover. i stated this yesterday. crennel is probably burned out after the DC and HC gigs especially at his age now. I could not see SP going after him. looks like i was spot on. now the next question is who do we get? ryan? ravens assistant? could a 49ers assistant not leave jimmy harbaugh for another job? regardless of contract?

plus Romeo has the nice paycheck from KC for a couple of years... Age 65 guaranteed millions and stay home or go coach? Hmmm. Lovie Smith same thing. Even at mid 50s, he can take a year off with the money and be just as hot of a commodity next year. Then ya can always step into a TV studio and talk for a few mil if ya wanna do that too. Pretty suhweet position

From PFT:

quote:

Report: Eagles hire Billy Davis as defensive coordinator

I saw it rumored that they were going to look at Grantham for the position.

Hey guys, I don't know if you've heard, but Crennel is getting paid this year if he doesn't coach. I think that means he won't coach for us.

The track history of Rob Ryan is very underwhelming. I think he's only had 1 year in the past 8-10 years of coordinating in the NFL with a top 10 defense. IT was with Cleveland and then the D went to crap soon after. You can only throw a lack of talent card out there so many times and then you run out and then it just appears as a pathetic hire.

ETA: Gregg Williams is off the market now, just signed with Titans as senior assistant/defense.

Just a heads up, the Niners blocked Donatell from interviewing last offseason...can't remember the club, though. There has to be an agreement between the two sides, that's a dick move otherwise.

TB last year, since Harblow is keeping Donatell as a replacement for Fangio if he gets a HC gig I wonder if there would be any block on Tomsula?
