My only hope is we can get this defense working properly before that fricking window closes.

I think this is the common dream among Saints Fans. All we need is to get close to the middle of the pack and we will be contending for a Championship, Again.

I wish we could pry Wade Phillips away from the Texans. Houston's defense had been a disaster and when he took over in 2011, there was an immediate difference. Texans ranked 3rd in YPG this season.

I wonder how much of that is JJ Watt though.

This whole Spags situation has made me wonder how much defensive coordinators are responsible for their unit's success.

Wade Phillips has been good everywhere he's been. Some guys are good coordinators but bad head coaches. Phillips, Dave Campo, Gregg Williams, Dave Wandstache, Norv Turner, etc.

Phillips would be my dream DC but I don't see him just up and leaving the Texans for the same job with the Saints.

the switch to the 3-4 is the biggest surprise. What do we do at LB now?

I do think Cam Jordan is really going to benefit in this system.

But what about Hawthorne? Vilma?

I guess nose tackle? he is a pretty big guy to put at DT but he could also be the perfect guy to have there to keep the offensive tackle occupied and let the LB's roam free to make plays.

He's a FA. Played well for SD last season before getting hurt. If there is no hard feelings felt for letting him go last time, I'd love to bring him back and use him at his proper position. He doesn't seem averse to one year deals (he has signed two in a row), so he'd make a great "sure thing" while we see what we'll do with Bunkley/Hicks/possible pick.

I posted it earlier in the thread but Bunkley was a top 5 nose tackle in the league playing in Denver's 3-4. He was out of place in our 4-3 last year.

He'll be our NT

That's how I see it, too.

Which makes me concerned about Hicks' use.
Hicks is the most exciting defensive prospect on the team, to me, so it would suck to not find a place for him.
I guess he'll compliment Jordan as an end.

Denver did run a 3-4 last year now that I think about it. People made a big deal of them going to a 4-3 and putting Dumervil's hand on the ground

Actually now that I think about it, that was before he got there. He was in a 4-3 in Philly and when he got traded to Denver they were switching over to a 4-3 as well. He played Nose in the 4-3, but not a 3-4

Solution:

Pry Wade Phillips from Houston with tons of money and hookers, and then trade up to the top 5 and take Bjoern Werner, the next JJ Watt.

Championship.
