I understand I won't be able to get him THE top of the line GPU but I still wanted to get him the best bang for his buck. I was seriously looking at the 670 ftw after reading the reviews on it. This is the part of building I hated the most was worrying about making a bad decision and reading the wrong review

More researching ahead I guess.

well whats your budget and how much have you already spent? in a gaming rig the GPU should be around 33% of total cost of tower components.

If you have the money get a 7970. Its a good bit better than the 670

My favorite part of anything. I love researching products and searching for deals.

as I have stated several times I love my asrock z77 extreme 4 with my gigabyte windforce 670. You have 800 dollars left in your build for an SSD, mobo, ram, and GPU.
asrock extreme 4 for 125 at newegg
Crucial CT256M4SSD for 170
pick you brand of 2x4 gb ram for 40 dollars
that leaves you 455 for a gpu for the tax above

I won't comment on which GPU is the best for you as I have only used my current card.
