I heard on the radio that Spags was at the Sr. Bowl this week.

I'm not a fan of Spags and wouldn't mind seeing him go. Not impressed by him at all.

That being said, I don't see him getting fired this year.

Only candidates out there are really Lovie Smith and Romeo Crenell (sp?)

IMO & IMHO... I wouldn't mind hiring Mike Singletary as defensive coordinator is CSP thinks he could do the job.

But I think there will be a bloodbath on Defense.
Hope so. Should have happened years ago.

We can keep bringing guys back who are "good enough" or "ok" or we can dump some of these scrubs that have been apart of bad defenses for years.

We need better personnel period. We had three years of GW who stocked up on CB's and pretty much neglected everything else.

Considering where we're at now, yes.

ding ding ding. between bad draft choices and players that don't even fit the Spags defense, it was an uphill battle to get any kind of positive production from these guys last season. worst defense in history though was a bit unexpected, and everyone deserves blame, but the players flat out suck (with a few exceptions of course)

I don't think our scouting department should get a pass here either. When he said a painful meeting would take a place, he could've meant drilling some of those guys with some criticism.

Who knows?

I can think of 3 guys that I would absolutely 100% keep.

Hicks
Lofton
Cam

Other guys like Corey White, Martez Wilson, Junior Gallette, etc I would like to stay on.

I think he'd at least like to have one year of working with the guy. Having clear leadership can do wonders for a team.

I hate the "players don't fit Spags system" argument.

1.) What's his system? Having Justin Tuck, Osi, JPP & Michael Strahan on the DL? Yeah, nobody has the players to fit that system save the NYG.

2.) A good DC would find a way to use the personelle he has. Not the other way around.

I agree the players need to be upgraded, but that's no excuse for how bad we were. We weren't that bad the year before with virtually the same players.

Also, we won't be able to do a wholesale defensive change as far as players go because of the cap this year.

I'm on record as he won't get canned and shouldn't, but I just have a feeling he isn't 100% safe. A feeling, that is all.

I think there may be some interesting details we aren't aware of.

It's a system that calls for smaller (in weight;quicker) defensive linemen and stouter linebackers and big physical players in the secondary. It's an aggressive zone-blitz scheme. GW liked his linemen beefy and his linebackers small and 5'11 corners.

He did switch to more man as the year went on, but that was after the 0-4 hole, which wasn't all the defenses fault.

He's a stubborn dick that did not mesh well with the staff and a majority of the players, his style isn't effective and wasn't able to adapt along the way. Coach Payton throws entire D under bus Day 1 on job, Spags nowhere to be found.
