Just like King Kong, it brought in the new age animaltronics that we see today. Wasn't much computer stuff back in 1977. This animal was built to scale and was a one of a kind movie. This flick kept people out of the sea for a long time after it's release. It's now in the "summer blockbuster" genre that it's responsible for creating.
