We were asking the same thing at the beginning of the year. Unfortunately I'm just kind of expecting him to come back down to earth but will have another stretch like this by the end of the year.

I hope I'm wrong and he keeps this up

He definitely needs to play more consistently, but the guy was born in 1990. He's still very young. He's starting to show more maturity in his effort and ability to respond positively to his own mistakes, which was a very big problem early this year and more so in his career.

Right now, he's looking like he would have been worth the option year at $3.4M, but hindsight is 20-20. Maybe declining the option was the kick in the arse that he needed. I hope we're able to bring him back at an affordable salary. He really does fill a nice role here. His rebounding compensates for Anderson and Lopez, while his defense is becoming formidable. Hell, he even drained a 3 yesterday.

To Lester Earl, you clownin'. Aminu has contributed way more this season than Ju Ju did in his entire career.

Well the Cavs just got a first rounder for a guy named Jon Leuer who is only averaging 2.4 pts a game

Good article from At The Hive today about Aminu's emergence.

LINK

Two sections stand out:

quote:

While it might seem strange to praise a player that's still not that close to being a net zero offensively, keep in mind that given everything else Aminu brings to the floor, he doesn't have to be a plus offensive player to be valuable.

quote:

There are no doubt brighter stars on the Hornets, better players, more promising prospects. But behind the Eric Gordon-Ryan Anderson-Anthony Davis core that will eventually determine the future, New Orleans has a prospect that's still just 22 years old, one that's quite literally improving by the game.

Most of the negative vibes towards Aminu are due to his uneven play to start this year and the fact that he isn't an offense oriented player.

But Aminu is a better rebounder this season, by a significant margin, than all of the bigs on the team other than Davis. He has the second lowest DRating of any regular player for the Hornets

Like ATL said, he didn't know what his role in the NBA was and that seems to be changing. If he can keep his play close to what we've seen this month, he needs to be resigned and he can certainly be a starter on a Hornets/Pelicans/Brass(I see you VOR) playoff team next season.

I really hope y'all are both right. But we can't use the "he's young" excuse for much longer. Its his 3rd year in the league and he needs to figure out that the way he has been playing lately is how he'll be successful in the league. Hopefully he figures that out and can be a solid backup SF and role player for this team down the road, or he can be a tradable player if we need help in other areas

They aren't trading Leuer for a first.

They are trading Leuer for a second + Maurice Speights + Josh Selby. This whole move is about getting rid of Maurice Speights' contract to help Memphis get under the tax.

Honestly, I think Aminu is developing about how you would expect him to. I'm not using "he's young" as an excuse as much as a justification of why he is worth resigning.
