Since no one can possibly be better at their position than tony g, it's either a tie or its tony.

As far as Lewis, I think he got a lot of pub because he always called attention to himself. I think he was great, but only truly elite for a few years. Back around when they won the Super Bowl. It seemed for like a short stretch he did made every play on that defense. Forcing fumbles, intercepting balls, etc. He always got a lot of kudos whether he was playing good or not, because of the way he played during that stretch, and because of the way Balt's D led them to the win in that SB. Won't get into the fact that he always had great players playing next to him. But he always got the credit even when he was too slow to make plays late in his career

WOW. I LOVE the way Lewis is a leaders and as tough as nails. BUT I have Butkus,Lambert,Singtary,And even Harry Carson over RAY. As far as GONZO.. Winslow is the BEST EVER without question. I think Shannon Sharpe was a better TE.AGAIN the game has changed and TEs are more involved now. I think Mark Bravaro is a WAY more COMPLETE TE than Gonzo.

I'd prefer to have Ray Lewis on my team than Tony Gonzales if I had to pick one out of a draft in their rookie seasons. Ray Lewis was also a better overall football player than Gonzales. But since you worded the question the way you did, I guess I'll go with Gonzales as a better player at his position. But that's because of a lack of competition for GOAT at the TE position. MLBs are stacked historically.

It's like comparing a shortstop to a CF. Cal Ripken was a greater player at his position than Joe Dimaggio was but Dimaggio was a far better player. There are far more elite players at MLB than there have been at TE.

It's ridiculous to rank Harry Carson over Ray Lewis. That's like saying Terrell Suggs is a better pass-rushing OLB than Lawrence Taylor.

Tony Gonzalez is the best tight end in NFL history. I can't believe this is what my first post is on.

you mean right now or over their careers? right now: gonzo career: lewis (not close)
You're telling me Ray Lewis's career at LB is better than Tony Gonzalez's career at TE? And that it's not close?! You're out of your damn mind. Not only is Tony Gonzalez the best TE in history in every statistical category, he has the second most receptions in NFL history among all players (behind Jerry Rice), the 7th most receiving yards among all players, and the 6th most receiving TDs among all players. Ray Lewis is an all-time great linebacker. There's no denying that. But Tony Gonzalez is far and away the best tight end in NFL history. ETA: By the way, great question OP. Both players are all-time greats.
