I had one when I was 18. I soaked in hot baths, the hotter the better, and one day I couldn't take it anymore and I kinda pinched the top and it made a very small tear in the skin where it all of the sudden started draining. It was pretty gross. Like the other poster said, it smells so bad and if you do this, have a lot of towels or old rags around because once that stuff starts draining, it doesn't slow down. I read that if it keeps continuing, surgery may be necessary to close it. My mom is an RN and she's seen it. They cut around it and sort of scoop it out, then suture you up but you have to lay on your stomach for a good couple weeks and you also have to keep having the gauze dressing changed very frequently. I'd try to get it lanced in an ER, especially if you have a copay. Keep it clean, sit in sitz (warm salt baths), stay clean. Best of luck. I know it's no fun, at all. ETA: I agree with TheBob, once it starts draining, it's immediate relief. Not joking.

My husband had one and suffered with it for about 5 years. Hes had surgery 3 times and it seemed like we tried EVERYTHING....He was on every single "good antibiotic".. from bactrim to levequin, etc.... First surgery, they decided to pack it with gause. The second one, they tried to leave it open with this drain.. The 3rd one they did this wound vac type thing.. That seemed to help some. By the time he had the 3rd surgery, there was so much scar tissue they had to cut out the size of a softball out of him. I could stick my fist inside of the hole it was soo big..... Finally, we decided to try the natural route. I had him take up to 8 garlic capsules a day, would put castor oil gause on it for about 1 hour a day, and tea tree oil on it for another hour. I actually bought fresh organic garlic and chopped it up and put it on gause on his a-hole for a while as well. And I had him drink aloe vera juice for about a week.. After about a month of doing this, we went to the dr and he was discharged. I can give you more info on the treatment if you are interested. Also, he soaked everynight in a tub of epson salts.

My husband waited to long to have it taken care of. He had it lanced but that didnt work. Those cysts actually tunnel into you and if its been there too long then you have to have the surgery so they can cut all of the "pits" out of you. If you do not get all of the pits.. it WILL come back... Make sure you go to a dr who specializes in this.

I had one back in college, too. Same results. When it first started we all thought it was a boil, and my mom tried all the old tricks to pop it and wasn't able to do so. Finally went to the surgeon and he said it was a carbuncle, but right in the same area. Pulled out a plug of hair, at least half an inch long. Still have a scar from the incision. Nurse cut my arse with the razor prepping me for surgery, too.

Stacy I'm on my way to the ER now, but if this becomes persistent I'm absolutely interested. I'm just worried that this will put me outta work for a while. Ill still get paid but I come up for reenlistment in June, don't wanna have 6 months of in and outta the hospital on my medical records. Not much I can do though. Get in lanced/removed tonight hopefully, i dont know. I do know ill fricking meltdown if they don't cut it in someway tonight. I'm usually mild mannered and polite, but if I wait for hours and they tell me to do nothing... I will lose it!

deal with it now. My husband put it off too long bc he didnt want to take off of work either. You NEED the time off to heal. If you dont do it, it will take much longer to heal. He was out the first time for 2 weeks on, then went to light duty (cop). Then the second surgery he was out a month... still not enough. The second time he took off another month but I made damn sure he didnt do a damn thing. We decided the natural route bc we had tried EVERYTHING. This was the most miserable thing we have both ever delt with... let me know if you have any questions...prayers sent.

From what a I've read they actually create a membrane wall. You body basically treats it as something outside the body at that point. I'm no doctor but it seems the only way to heal something like this would be to remove it entirely.

Had one in college, started feeling a pain in my tailbone which I thought was bruised. After suffering for about a week I went to the er and they lanced it, you're doing the right thing by getting it taken care of now. Waiting on something like that will only be worse later on. I haven't had any problems with it since then, just make sure to keep your hiney clean. Good luck op

Had one my senior year in high school that was very persistent. Got it lanced and drained and then it came back. Finally got surgery with the chance of it coming back, but it has been fine since. I know your pain, that shite sucks. It is very common for people from Mediterranean descent or other hairy cultures to get them. My two brothers and I had them and my uncle's and Dad had them too and we are all Italian. It forms from an ingrown hair on your arse crack and then it gets infected because there is plenty of bacteria down there and it forms a cysts. My doctor told me the only way to be sure it would not come back would be to shave my ass.

I've had two cysts, but they were right by my butt hole. Holy shit, worst pain ever. 1st- Severe pain for a few weeks during my AIT when I first joined the Army. Popped that bitch in the shower and I didn't have a clue what it was. 2nd- About two years ago in the same spot. Hurt like crazy but then I sneezed and it burst. That shite smells SO BAD but felt so good to finally burst. Good luck, it's not exactly what I've had but I don't wish them on anyone.
