Congrats on the purchase, but you've also created a potentially huge pain in the arse for yourself.

1911s are like Pringles, you just can't stop.

bgoodwin,
You made an excellent choice, both w/ the gun itself and the maker. I'm sure you'll have countless hours of shooting w/ the gun! Let us know how she shoots.

is the citadel 1911 worth a damn?

JAB,
Although I don't claim to be KR, I'll share w/ you my experiences w/ my Citadel. I've had Concealed Carry model (built on an Officer's frame w/ a 3.5" barrel) for about 1 1/2 years. Citadels are made by Armscor, the same company that makes RIA's. I've been very pleased w/ my Citadel. It's had about 300 rounds through. I bought the Citadel instead of the RIA because it had a number of enhancements (lowered ejection port, target hammer/trigger, extended beavertail, extended thumb safety/slide stop lever, and Novak type sights. The main thing I don't like about the Citadel (and RIA's, as well) is their Parkerized finish. Their websites describe it a Parkerized or "matte", but it's Parkerized. OTOH, my American Classic Commander (also made in The Philippines, albeit from a different company) has a nice, deep blue finish. It's been reliable. The trigger is fairly crisp, but not as nice as my Commander. I've read a lot complaints on the 'net about the factory mags (RIA, Citadel and A/C mags are all made by Mec-Gar), but mine have run ok. I've bought a bunch of Chip McCormick Shooting Star mags anyway.

I agree with citadel being well made, the only knock I've heard is the factory mag problem. But like I said, if I'm buying a Philippian made 1911 I'm getting a Metro Arms American Classic. It's a Colt in Metro Arms clothing. They bought colts old factories machines included. They are being made on the same machines that manufactured Colts for years.

I've always had da/sa handguns, but wanted a 1911. Well,I picked up a new Ruger SR1911 a couple of weeks ago and couldn't be happier. Grip angle, sights, accuracy...it just fits.

Can I axe a question?

Why buy a new gun and then set it on an abrasive surface like a rock to take a picture? I bet if you look real close on your weapon you will now see some finish damage.

A piece of wood gives just as good a picture backdrop and won't damage the gun.

Yeah, that pic was pulled off the web.
Here's my take: I have always admired the look and feel of the 1911, but it is a tool to defend my, or my family's well being. It will be shot, handled, show holster wear, get sweated on, and will probably be dropped on the ground. The mags will get scratched and pitted from being dumped while practicing.
I didn't buy on "pretty" (although it is), I bought for security.

Translation: None of my guns are safe queens.

I have to agree. Every gun I buy will see 1000s of rounds. That's what it was made to do.

I've got an itching for the new SR1911 Commander. It's on my "must buy" list.

Congrats on your new 45 and welcome to the 1911 club!

Just to be the Colt stickler on this board, I have to point out that Commanders are only made in West Hartford, CT. Ruger will have to call its gun something else...
