I walk my arse off flushing rabbits and squirrels for my hawk. So, I'd like to find some very comfortable leather boots. I prefer leather because the briars tend to shred anything else after a while. Comfortable, and tough are the main priorities. I'm willing to pay, but not $300 for Danners or the like.

Any suggestions?

Chippewa boots

These are very popular in Montana. I had a pair and loved them. Great for hilly rugged country. Didn't get another pair now that I'm in South Louisiana. Not as good in swamps

I've been using a pair of these for similar excursions through the woods. Not hawking though.

They're tough but comfortable, and can take the briars. Just hit'em with a little polish. I've had mine 5 years and resoled them once.

They make these too:

I wear these in CO when I elk hunt.

I don't know where you could try some on anywhere. I've seen Chippewa boots but not the logger style around Baton Rouge.

Seems like a bit much for hunting IMO but I'm sure you look cool. My buddy shot a cow in tennis shoes in what is thicker country. I wore one of my hiking boots. csb

Are we talking about a work boot or a hunting boot?

Hunting. But I don't care what the boots are called if they're comfortable can hold up to a thousand miles of briar patches.

Well, it isn't because of the boots. It's because I carry this with me everywhere I go.

I have a pair of ariat square toe cowboy boots and I can walk miles in those things once I broke them in. Very thick leather. I wear them around my camp and they've help up perfectly

I was watching a sharp shinned hawk working over the sparrows in my back yard today and was wanting to ask you if anybody uses those since they don't really do rabbits and whatnot?

Yep, sharpies are used on birds, as are their larger cousins, the Cooper's hawks. The coops can also take cottontails though.
