Nothing to see here

But I would like to see them beat Bama

If we are capable to beat Bama we are more than capable to beat y'all or anybody else in the SEC ... But I guess you mean something to the affect of their team gets the stomach bug and to add insult to injury OM beats them in football ... Is that about right?

Ok I have asked this in a couple threads now ... Why is it so hard to believe we can't rise out of mediocrity? USCe did and they were a couple years removed from a winless season something OM has never done before. Comparing their history to ours we are miles ahead of them yet many posters on here would say they are legit east contenders.

Oh and USCe wasn't the first place spurrier did that at you do remember what UF was prior to him don't you??? Oh and what about LSU before Saban? And I could go on but instead I think you see my point we the right coach and the approach to recruiting programs can change ... Perfect example would Bama be Bama if let's say the Bear had decided to stay @ aTm instead of leaving?

So ask what truly is so shocking that you just can't believe it's happening at Ole Piss?? And before you answer yes RN will be a Reb and that's one of the major factors in all of this ...

Ill admit that Freeze is the right guy for Ole Miss, but even if you sign all 4 5 stars, you will still have a very top heavy class. If you look at Bama, LSU, Florida, etc they recruit about 15-20 4 stars a class. That creates depth. Furthermore you're comparing Freeze to Bear Bryant, Nick Saban, and Steve Spurrier...
Need I say more?

well i for one wondered a while back if Ole Miss even belonged in the SEC. But the right coach, the right recruiting class, sprinkled with the right amount of $$$ and heads can turn and eyes can roll. If you noticed in their bowl game 60k fans showed up for a low tier bowl game. got to believe they have lot of fan support and alumni connections to make it happen. After all they aren't Tulane.

Sure, it could happen...just don't believe that its very likely. When Saban took over LSU he inherited one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the nation. Per capita, Louisiana produces as much talent as any place in the country. All he needed to do was keep it home. While Mississippi also ranks among the top states for division 1 football players per resident, the state only has about 2/3 of the population of its western neighbor and a second major state school to compete against to keep the best players in state. Besides having to go to war with State every year for the best in state players, Ole Miss also has to deal with Alabama and LSU, which have won 1/2 of the past 10 national championships, recruiting the states top players hard every year.

While it certainly isn't impossible for Ole Miss to potentially turn their program in to a powerhouse, I just don't see it happening. Maybe if MSU, Bama, LSU, and Auburn would somehow all be placed on probation with severe sanctions at the same time for 3yrs, or so.

Nope....I just meant I'd like to see someone (besides LSU and A&M) give Bama trouble.

Ummm....because it never has? I will say the biggest issue at Ole Miss, assuming HF wins with this talent, will be keeping him in Oxford.

Absolutely. We have a lot of quality players in positions of need adding to this class. Their rankings don't reflect that you'll just have to trust me.

I hate to keep siding with the Bears but lsu fans that give ole miss no shite of relevance are naive. I recall some 4-7 and 3-8 season prior to Saban.

I do agree, though, more depth in a class annually is needed. Lsu currently has 19 four stars or higher.

LSU was in the Top 15 winningest programs in College Football history before Saban got here.

So my comment stands

Without Nick Saban, LSU is 697-377-47 - he did a good job, and there have been great teams since, but LSU is fine without Nick Saban (and he's fine without us).

Ole Miss on the other hand, without Johnny Vaught, is 438-431-12 - think about that for a second. Even all these years later, Vaught still led 30% of ALL Ole Miss Victories - without him - ya'll are a .500 ball club. Vaught led 106 SEC victories - since Vaught (and adding back in Kinard's 6) ya'll have won 115 SEC games.

Take your coach envy somewhere else - it is unseemly. Ya'll should not have fired Cutcliffe - at least he was a winner.

I agree with you, never say never, but the comparison to LSU is not a good one and no its not because I'm an LSU fan.

As others have mentioned, La is a larger state, that produces more SEC and NFL caliber plaeyrs, plus LSU does not have another SEC team in the state or even a mid major with some history like USM.

so while I agree OM could certainly put together a better program and even make a run like USCe, I'm not sure they have the resources to be a consitent contender at a high level. Maybe like a Texas Tech type program, usually 7-8 wins, put together a special team every so often.
