In professional sports it is normal to consider a season a failure unless you win the ultimate prize such as a Championship.

Yet when LSU fails and people have this mentality people start claiming how horrible they must be. LSU is one of probably 10-15 Teams that yearly has a legit shot at a National Title and if you look at polls over past 10-15 seasons you see really all the teams that won started in Top 15 (Think Auburn and LSU 03 are only two that did not) so why shouldn't fans feel a bit slighted when they fail to win a NC? (Although there is an extreme cases BOTH ways on this and we've seen both sides on the Rant)

quote:

Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all time thing. You don't win once in a while, you don't do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.
Vince Lombardi

quote:

If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?
Vince Lombardi

quote:

Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.
Vince Lombardi

quote:

A champion is afraid of losing. Everyone else is afraid of winning.
Billie Jean King

quote:

The person that said winning isn't everything, never won anything.
Mia Hamm

quote:

It kills me to lose. If I'm a troublemaker, and I don't think that my temper makes me one, then it's because I can't stand losing. That's the way I am about winning, all I ever wanted to do was finish first.
Jackie Robinson

quote:

If money titles meant anything, I'd play more tournaments. The only thing that means a lot to me is winning. If I have more wins than anybody else and win more majors than anybody else in the same year, then it's been a good year.
Tiger Woods

quote:

Winning is the most important thing in my life, after breathing. Breathing first, winning next.
George Steinbrenner

quote:

When you're a winner you're always happy, but if you're happy as a loser you'll always be a loser.
Mark Fidrych

quote:

There is no room for second place. There is only one place in my game and that is first place. I have finished second twice in my time at Green Bay and I never want to finish second again.

Win 10 games. Get a raise. Profit.

10 games = tduecen happy

Get a raise = Miles happy

Profit = LSU Happy

That is our process.

I am amazed that this mentality is not accepted by every Tigah fan, adminstrator, and coach. If it was, well you know

Go check Oregon fans. Kelley leaves and they are acting as if nothing happened. They look forward to a new season and new challenges. A lot of you don't even enjoy football season because as soon as the game starts you worry about the next game and two games into the season it is all about the next season.

I'm bothered by having a goofy coach that can't move the ball consistently against anyone, including Towson.

I remember being thrilled because we made the independence bowl. I'm happy our program has reached a point that its almost sec/nc or bust.

Of course it's not realistic to do every single year, and losing a few games each year brings out the worst in fans that don't really remember those days. Id rather that over losing 5-6 games a year though.

On here you'd swear some people would rather lose that many games so we can change coaches and qbs though.

Because reasonable fans reailize that there can only be one national champion, and sometimes the planets just don't align properly (the injuries, suspensions, etc this year are a prime example). Based on the quotes you posted, do you really think the author's are inferring that "winners" win the championship every year?

As a long time LSU fan, I don't have a bust metality. We have played in 3 BCSNCGs and won 2 of 3. I don't believe we have ever lost a College World Series championship game.

Some strive to take home the big trophy. Some are ok with participation ribbons. Nothing wrong with being a ribbon type guy I guess

Joe Alleva said it best. He said it is not ALLWAYS about winning the NC, it is important to be in the hunt every season meaning you can not win it every year.

Some of the blame goes to Espn. Some of us remember the days if every major bowl taking place on NYD. You went about your next day with a split ntl title or outright. Funny thing, it's more controversial now, than when it was mythical split amongst sports writers. Now, the universe is controlled by Espn. They talk about the MNC in the summer, and don't stop until the 2nd week of jan. It's non-stop coverage for 40 days. It makes all other accomplishments irrelevant. If you don't win the MNC, you really didnt do anything. Regardless of injuries, suspensions, tragedies, schedule, adversity. Not that I'm 100% satisfied with the current climate of this program.

No NC is a bad feeling, but if we can't play for it at the end of the season, we better look better during the bowl game than during any other game.

We aren't going to be so spectacular next year.

Vince Lombardi lost at least 1 game every year he coached.

From 1964 to 1969, he lost 3 or more games in every season but 1.

Oh, sure he won 5 NFL titles in an 7 year period but lost 2 or more games in 4 of those years. Went 9-4-1 the last year he won an NFL title (Super Bowl II). Never had a perfect season.

Maybe we just need a playoff in college football so a loss or two in the regular season won't matter as much.

Or I guess we could fire Les Miles and clone Vince Lombardi.

That would probably the only thing we could do to make the Nick Saban penis envy stop for a day or two.

We had a Nick Saban once. He left. The Nick Sabans and Chip Kellys of the world are few and far between. LSU might find another. But if you think Alleva is the guy to do it, I've got some pictures of Te'o's girlfriend I'd like to show you. Emmert made the Saban hire happen. Skip made the Miles hire happen. Alleva has never proven that he is capable of hiring any coach worth a shite.

They one thing all of those people have in common is that they competed and control over winning and losing. When you compete you need that mentality, when you are a fan it just leads to madness.
