re: O&G Landman knocking on my door for 'lease'

I've been in the industry since 1990. The 2009 meltdown was the wost I've been through by a long shot. Just when it was on the verge of recovering it took a turn for the worst again. This is the worst 3-4 year period in the industry I have ever experienced.

ETA - I've heard stories of the 80's and it is considered the benchmark for downturns. Statistical anylysis of the fallout in 2009 show that it was just as bad if not worse.

Why would your wife be paid for her mothers land?

Yea, the 80's were when my grandmas boss put all he got from oil, which was a lot because he was the NWLA oil business, and invested in real estate out of state, lost it ALL, got cancer and died.

Interests don't work this way. It's either:

400 acres which was partitioned into 3 surface tracts and 1 mineral estate

400 acres that has split ownership between 3 people who executed surface leases/tenant agreements.

do any of you know what is going on in the tuscaloosa marine shale in cenla? I have some property leased out there and hear that there is drilling activity in the area. Any idea if that is true and what they are finding?

Guys from the company flew in and met with them and are supposed to start drilling before June

I should have been clearer. She owns 136 acres. It was originally part of a 400 piece.

Nothing if it is a natural gas play.

There are a couple of wells going down in Wilkinson County and the upper Florida Parishes. From what I've heard most that have been completed are big disappointments.

I've been told Cali is supposed to be the 2013 boom location. I know it is really busy right now.

I haven't heard of many companies looking to invest in new areas. It seems they are mostly sticking to proven areas right now until the industry turns around.

Its probably legit if its an Oil, Gas and Mineral Lease, OGML's typically have a primary term of three to five years. Because you only own a small lot your lease bonus is small, if you are included in a production unit, that's where you could see decent money for years to come based upon production of the well.

However, if this Landman is trying to get you to sign a Royalty Deed or Mineral Deed, invite hime over and kick him in his balls, because he's trying to scree you. If this is the case, he's just working for a speculator.

I've heard upwards of 15 billion barrels of recoverable oil. Another shale play. A bunch of those rich frickers along the Central Coast are about to get richer
