I really think LOTR should be one at least. It works as a single piece and is going to litter the list.

I'm starting from scratch. I will be similar to my past list, but some differences, new enteries etc. It will take some time.

I think my past list was very very focused on lasting meaning and innovation. I don't think my new list will be like that.

Also, I plan to have two threads this time. One for Discussion One for Ballots only. I hope the board approves. Both stickied of course.

Yeah I'm definitely going to write. Like I say, I plan on writing a few. And I'll go ahead and get first pick of the litter that's cool. Let's take a poll.

Who wants first right up choice?

Definitely.

Since its up for debate, I say separate the movies. It will make totaling the list harder but it will also show how good a single movie is viewed vs the others in the series/trilogy. Matrix might make the list as a top 25 movie but 2 and 3 wont even be considered, I wouldnt think. It makes it much easier to rank a trilogy higher when they are together than they are separated. Ex: Maybe somebody likes Casablanca better than Fellowship of the Rings, but likes the trilogy better. It gives LOTR an advantage just because its a trilogy. I dont know if thats a bad thing or good thing though.

I seriously doubt that. The trilogy improves as a single piece of work, as I'm sure the Hobbit will as well. I'd say make LOTR and Kill Bill the only exceptions.

this is probably obvious but some people may not notice it.

keep in mind some movies are made under the same title multiple times, if you have a movie like this you should mention the year it was made. Maybe it would be a good general rule put the year behind the movie.

for example while it would be obvious what movie you would be referring to. The invasion of the Body snatchers came out twice one in 1956 and one in 1978. Or if you say Phantom of the Opera there was a 1925 version and a more recent version. Just be careful about years when you refer to a movie.

Yeah, that sounds good. I'll even be a Nazi and delete posts in the ballot thread that are not ballots if you want.

I think there are a few exceptions that CAN be treated as one work:

Lord of the Rings
Trois Coleurs
Godfather Parts I&II

Pretty much anything else can be broken down into its component parts, mainly due to quality variance.

I'd put Kill Bill in there as well.

I'd add Kill Bill and call it a day.

This should make some happy.....but many will ignore.

In all fairness, I really wouldn't count the GF I and II as 1 work, even though I kind of started this discussion because I wanted to count them as 1

I admit to selfish reasons of wanting to count them as 1 so i can add another movie, but really the LOTR and Kill Bill are the only one's I think can count as 1. I never saw the Trois Coleurs, so i'll defer on that one.

I'll take Pre-1940s if we do that. The 1950s were awesome, they deserve a list. Yeah, 50's should get it's own list, a great decade, though no way could i stick to the 1 film per director standard. 20's, 30's and 40's could be 1 list imo.

sounds good to me too
