Remington UMC is my favorite target ammo, but don't be picky. For target ammo just get whatever is cheapest.

.40 ammo is everywhere now. 9mm is a little scarce. One of those guns should've been a .357 IMO.

Remington Gold Dot is VERY underrated.

It's actually Remington Golden Saber. You're confusing it with Speer Gold Dot. Both are very good defense rounds but the Golden Saber should be tested in your gun before you depend on it. It has a longer overall length than most cartridges. But if you buy Golden Saber, be sure to get the bonded ones.

I like heavy bullets on .40, but that's just me.

As a rule of thumb, the heavier, the deeper the penetration (try to say that and not think dirty ). I try to stay heavy-for-caliber in all my loads. Here are a few of the trusted hollow point loads in my various handguns:

9mm - 124gr Speer Gold Dot +P, 124gr Hornady XTP +P, 124gr Winchester PDX1 +P, 135gr Federal Hydrashok

40 S&W - 180gr Federal Hydrashok (home defense load)

45 ACP - 200-230gr anything. I think the best is the 200gr Speer Gold Dot +P

For target practice, there is no reason you shouldn't shoot aluminum. It may expand a lot, but aluminum is MUCH softer than steel. It won't hurt your gun. It just may jam some. But any other brass ammo will run fine as well.

What kind of guns did you get, btw?

Well I learned the hard way. O well.

Joshy:

Problem solved --- I'll buy all the aluminum-cased (CCI Blazer) ammo you have. Call me. Cash money.

Oh, and I'll buy all the aluminum-cased (CCI Blazer) ammo anybody else wants to sell. Call me. Cash money.

p.s. The Hydra-Shoks that some are hyping would be good target ammo, too.

But in today's market, if that's the only SD ammo you can find, it's better than FMJ.

Joshy: I have a couple of boxes of Remington Golden Saber in .40 sitting here. I'm sure we could work out an equitable swap for your 9mm Blazer aluminum-cased ammo.

Wasn't too hard. I mean difficult.

Yea there are a few surprising hidden gems in the hollow point market. Some of them are pretty damn impressive.

yea, I saw the 17+in of penetration and went and bought three boxes the next day. I've heard him say lighter grains perform better in shorter barrels anyway

Bought a FNX-40 and a 9mm- same brand. I just liked the way it felt. It was my first gun buy. Was tempted to go with the 1911 brand. Appreciate the info. I didn't want to mess my gun up with cheap ammo and jut wondering what was best for target rounds. Did buy some hollow points-Winchester. 20 a box

230 gr Speer Lawman for target, 230 gr Speer Gold Dot for defense loads.

I have also used the Winchester white box, and even Tullammo, but make SURE you clean it after you shoot the Tullammo. Shoots fine, but it's dirty.
