It is a federal "gun crime" to take your rifle across state lines and inadvertently commit a game violation. Trust me, you don't want mandatory sentences on Federal gun crimes.

The term assault rifle does have a definition according to the US military.
It is a short barreled intermediate powered selective fire rifle.
This means it can fire both fully automatic and semi automatic.
Fact is, the rifle that everyone here is discussing about banning is a civilian copy that is not capable of full automatic fire.
Thus in reality these are nothing more than intermediate powered semi automatic rifles. No different than any other semi auto rifle that is magazine fed.
The fact that it looks like the military version means nothing.
For the sake of this discussion, the term assault weapon really is a legally made up term so they could ban them. I don't honestly understand what people are hoping to accomplish here.
You come up with a new definition of an assault rifle, and they will change one or two things so it falls outside the parameters and will still look and function the same and thus can be sold and owned.
Thus the whole thing is moronic.
