Slippery slope. Define mentally ill. Anyone that has EVER been prescribed medicine for depression, anxiety, grief reaction etc. This could potentially affect millions of gn owners unless the laws are VERY specific.

I agree with this in theory, however, WHO decides if someone is mentally ill? If a person was treated for depression 10 years ago, are they mentally ill and banned from gun ownership? If someone has bi-polar disorder are they mentally ill? If someone had a nervous breakdown are they banned? If the authorities don't like you for some reason, can you be classified as mentally ill? With the new healthcare law in effect, I believe firmly that, eventually, everyone's medical records will be readily available to the government. Hope no one has a temper tantrum on record with their health history... I'm in this kind of frame of mind today.

Wouldn't have stopped sandy hook massacre...mom had bought the guns, unless she was diagnosed somewhere and i missed it.
