The CDC isn't a private organization. I guess you aren't aware, but most of the public health and medical research grants come from the federal government. I'm not in favor of federal government spending, but most research requires it.

CDC firearms research was cut an average of 100k per year. LINK

quote:

Congress in 1996 nearly cut the CDC budget by $2.6 million, the amount the agency spent on firearms research at the time, researchers say. The funds were later restored, but a restriction was added to the budget and remains.
"None of the funds made available for injury prevention and control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention may be used to advocate or promote gun control," the budget read.
Similar language was added to the budget in 2011 for the National Institute of Health and other federal health agencies.
Officials have largely pulled the plug on gun research.
A forthcoming study by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's group, estimates that CDC funding for such research was cut to $100,000 a year in 2009-2012 from an average of $2.5 million, in current dollars, in 1992-1996.

Looks like a bunch of theater on the part of some overzealous liberals to create another bogeyman. Research could still be conducted, it appears that officials at the CDC ended most of it voluntarily.

THe CDC can't directly promote gun control. Nothing should be really that controversial about that.

Which communities have the most violent crime in this country and drive our violent crime statistics?
black communities.

Most violent gun crimes are committed using illegally obtained weapons.

Also less than 5 crimes involving firearms were rifles of any kind, much less "assault rifles".

Thank you. Which is why I am baffled politicians and liberals spend all their time lecturing everyone but those communities about firearms.

You want fewer liberties, more government control, and bigger government authority.

Sounds libertarian to me. . .

Says the "libertarian" who consistently advocates for more government intrusion and trampling of individual liberties. Your trolling isn't fooling anyone, Burt. Or would you prefer me to call you DrunkTigerBaiter?

The National Health Institute begs to differ.

The NIH isn't the only entity capable of funding research.

quote:

You are comparing PHD students to the CDC.

Apparently you're unaware of the fact that PhD students do original research. A dissertation has to be good enough that it would, in the opinion of the review committee, qualify for publication in a legitimate academic journal. In fact, it's a common practice to seal a thesis or dissertation for a year so the student can use it to advance his or her own career.

So in this case, it's a valid comparison. A PhD student can do the research on this question.

quote:

Like everything else, it takes money and when that money is controlled by gun lobbyists, kiss your research goodbye.

Again, you seem to be laboring under the delusion that the ONLY way for research to be done is for the federal government of the United States to fund it. There is no research money at all in other countries, at the state or local level, or from private foundations?? You can't possibly be that dense.

quote:

Agains, it costs money.

Not really. If you have an Internet connection, access to a public library, and a few like-minded people helping you, you can EASILY do research on this topic for chump change. Even if that weren't the case, you could hit up a liberal foundation or activist group for the money. Or you could get a state like New York or California to bankroll the research.

Instead, you just want to sit around playing victim and pointing fingers at everyone else for your own failures.

Yeah...

Doesn't surprise me though.

If people want to see a huge drop in gun violence in the future, ending the WoD's would be a good start. It would be more effective than gun control and then those who support it can be a real libertarian and stop lying about it.

Hmmm, I guess this has turned into a racist thread. Look at the gun related murder statistics in Harlem, one of the largest black communities in the US. Newton, CT and Aurora, CO aren't black communities

has nothing to do with the article I posted, stop hijacking the thread.

Link to any post where I've advocated this. I guess if I want the US gov. to have something that the civilians don't have ie. tanks, nukes, icbms then that constitutes wanting fewer liberties.

that's rich coming from a bigot/racist

Libertarian.
So you want an ever increasingly large government to get bigger (which Libertarians oppose) to take our guns or at least make laws that restrict what I can buy, which Libertarians oppose (gun control) plus make certain things with guns illegal (which Libertarians oppose)? I am beginning to see why your party has grown so little over the last 40 years or so and only garnered a million votes in the last election. Hell, y'all can't even articulate your beliefs (or keep them straight).

Gentrification. You are a few decades late. It isn't just a black area anymore. just a neighborhood or two.

Saying "black communities" is racist?

You attempts are just getting comedic.

Maybe I overestimated your capabilities.
