re: LHSAA--Anybody heard any rumors about the LHSAA Executive Director's job?

Reading this thread is crazy.
I know nothing about high school athletics, but here's my solution.
1) if a small school wants to be in a higher class, you must go all the way to 5A. No cherry picking.
2) and, all your sports will be in 5A should you play up. Deal with it!
3) recruit all you want, but parents must move for the student athlete to be eligible , no simply jumping from the public school to the private school
4) if the student cannot move, then he must sit out a year
5) a student becomes Uneligable to play high school sports the day he turns 19. Before that date, play all you want.

I do not think that they realize what it would take to start their own association. Some of the private schools came to the LHSAA from the old LISA league. I think that is how they spelled their acronym. If you think that it is a level playing field you are fooling yourself. Select schools have more freedom when it comes to enrollment and who they can take. I do not understand why a public school would be against this. Think about this. If a private school does not want to accept someone, they do not have to. This in turn can control their enrollment numbers. Public schools can't.

So do you really think its fair that teams like PBS and Notre Dame can take in kids that do not even reside in the same parish as that the school is located? That's is not a level playing field. By the way these private schools are not going to pull out of the LHSAA because they do not have the resources to start their own organization. Most are doing enough to keep their heads above water.

PBS and nd ain't the problem my man

how do we know the problem isn't too many North LA people in LHSAA leadership? North LA can't coexist with nonpublic schools bc they have so few of them.

they don't care if there's a split bc they never usually play them

every public and private school in south LA has a rival of the other kind whom they play fun games against, and would hate to quit playing, (and surprise!!!!) most of them are pretty evenly matched

Exactly their landscape wouldn't change much....they won't notice them gone...

If they would have dealt with Curtis/ ECA rather than appeasing the powerful on the committee that shaped the proposals....we wouldnt be in this boat

re: LHSAA--Anybody heard any rumors about the LHSAA Executive Director's job?

the executive committee is mostly made up of 14 member principals, 7 from the upper half of districts in each class, and 7 from the lower half of districts, plus 4 at large members and a past president of the committee.

the lower halfs of district represenatives are the principals of Mandeville, Assumption, Brusly, Doyle, Central Catholic, Hathaway, and Hackberry. two at-large members are from South LA, the principals of Terrebonne and Ecole Classique (they should have some clout)

i know Mr. Warner from Chalmette was on it a while back, but it's been a while since i've seen other true NOLA representation among the principals.

there's also Lutcher HC Tim Detillier from the AD association, two from the coaches association including former Chalmette HC Randy Johnson, one from the school boards of LA, one superintendent, and one from BESE (he's with the Orleans RSD)

There are already preliminary plans for a separate administrative body. There is absolutely no benefit for private schools to stay with the LHSAA if this passes.

As someone said earlier, this proposal will crush all sports except for football and basketball.

There are more committees than the executive committee

How about the 1A schools who want to play up to 2A because they will spend less money on travel with a closer district or a team who wants to stay with a traditional group of rivals etc. You would force them to play to 5A?

Also, you already have to live in the district to be eligible. Do you know of kids who don't live in the district playing their first year? From what I know of, that usually only happens with some public schools.

Youre rule would also mean a kid who was playing baseball his senior year and turns 19 in april cant play the playoffs?

Please stay away from high school sports.

I'm thinking that not every public school will vote for this to pass, so the question is how many will? Also, does it take a simple majority to pass the legislation?

There are a large portion of public schools whose ADs and principals haven't kept up with the details of the proposal and are going to vote as told.

What would schools like Belle Chase, West Jeff and Ehret do?

Join a League with Karr, OP Walker, Shaw, Holy Cross or a league with Clark, Cohen, Cox?
