I will probably implement the ice chest water bath for my beer. the fermentor outside is going to be too cold and I dont feel like hooking up a heat lamp.

I've been having to run a little hot water in the bath to warm it up some. Obviously today wont be an issue but it was earlier this week.

might get a heat lamp and see what I can do.

I have an electric blanket that my carbon sits on top of during the winter. Tape the temp control probe to the side of the carbon. Works great.

The probe to the blanket or do you use your fridge controller?

The Johnson Controls Temp controller.

I have a fridge dedicated to fermentation. So the carboy is in the fridge. By taping the probe to the side of the carboy, you are measuring the temp of the carboy......so when the temp of the carboy reaches the temp you set on the johnson controller ....in this case 73.....the fridge kicks on and cools the carboy down to 72.

re: Homebrewing: What to brew next?

Just sat down and came up with my recipe for my french farmhouse.

10.50 lb Pilsner
2.10 lb Munich Malt
0.70 lb Aromatic Malt
0.50 lb Caravienne Malt
0.25 lb Chocolate Wheat Malt
0.16 lb Biscuit Malt
0.05 lb Black Patent Malt

1.50 oz Fuggles [4.50 %] (60 min) Hops 21.6 IBU
0.50 oz Hallertauer [4.80 %] (15 min) Hops 3.8 IBU

For yeast I will go with WLP670 American Farmhouse Blend and ferment it at 68. I have become very fond of that yeast.
