It may be a human cell but it is not a human. On the other hand a fertilized egg (by two humans of the opposite sex) is a genetically unique human being. That means, this new human is one of a kind. There is no one else like this new human. This has been proven thousands of times over in scientific laboratories and has a theological basis documented since the time of Christ. This is one area where the Christian religion and science agree.

According to Mr. Ryan even a newly fertilized egg that hasn't attached to the uterine wall should legally be considered a "person".
So what happens if that fertilized egg doesn't attach and instead gets cycled out through menstruation? Do we then charge the woman who had her period with murder?

I guess if the holy spirit can be a person, why not a zygote?

Most of my absence was from a ban from NSD last year that only recently was lifted.\ Takes a while for the old habits to kick in. And religious/biology threads aren't as common anymore to suck me in.

I'm with him. Once the process begins it should be considered a person, and killing it should mean life in prison with no chance of parole.

And yet you asshats are all for seizing guns and getting rid of the 2nd amendment. Hmmm... Their is a reason you aren't taken seriously.

"Humanhood" is not the salient issue. Personhood is. A fertilized egg is NOT a human being in the first place, and will never become a person unless it attaches to the uterine wall, a very iffy proposition. It doesn't matter one damn bit to the matter of personhood if a fertilized egg is unique. Furthermore, the matter of constitutionality is totally being ignored here. If Ryan wants to grant legal personhood to a fertilized egg, a ridiculous proposition except to religious nuts, he should go about it the right way: propose a constitutional amendment. Then good luck gathering enough fellow nutcases to amend our constitution because right now the law is clearly not on his side and he's wasting taxpayer time and money.

"Humanhood" is not the salient issue. Personhood is.
So you are making a distinction between a human and a person? In fact the first definition of person is:
quote:
1. A human being regarded as an individual.
Have you, in your entire life ever met a human who was not a person? You better get to working on a new definition of person or choose a different rationalization to continue the massacre because making a distinction between human and person is currently not working.

One day the pro abortionists will evolve past their Stone Age thinking on what constitutes a human life and a person. Make no mistake, history is on the pro life side and pro abortionists will be viewed with the same disdain 100 years from now as we view slaveholders and their supporters.

I suspect he and others like him take a bit of pleasure in the fact that a disproportionate number of minorities access abortion services. Margaret Sanger fan I suppose... "As part of her efforts to promote birth control, Sanger found common cause with proponents of eugenics, believing that they both sought to 'assist the race toward the elimination of the unfit.'"
