It´s a bit of what he said after landing there.
EPL defenses are shitty, slow, plodding, etc.
They wised up, the league has him to thank for upping their level of play.
He was simply north of ´meh´in Spain when he left (with great, great potential, no doubt, which kept him in the headlines), and he benefitted from the lack of tactical nous in the EPL.
Those days are gone.
Also, Liverpool was a solid side, and Stevie had some amazing passes there.

Many sides which are not champions have done well in the CL, from many leagues. Champions have come during ´meh´league campaigns, and preparing for their CL matches like college football teams do for their bowl.
The ´piss and vinegar´approach to matches (come out like screaming banshees, get up by a goal or two, then bunker), worked very well.
I don´t think the sides you were referring to, had matches against Torres, whilst qualifying.
EPL sides have always had great athletes, capable of heaving up and down the pitch for a much greater part of the match than others.
Shake or stir any or all of the above, your choice, then pour. Your answer is served.

Some of what you say may be true. But he was the 3rd highest scorer in La Liga a couple seasons before joining Liverpool. Only Ronaldo (24) and Baptista (20) scored more goals than him (19). He also played on a shite club who was only promoted a couple seasons before that I believe. He's only scored 19 in the Prem a single time FWIW.

To use an analogy from Bho´s world, Torres was a promising thoroughbred, with a steamrolling gazelle stride (contradictory concepts, but applicable in this case), and a modicum of technical proficiency, at that time.
He was the font of much controversy in Spain, he was both loved and loathed, in terms of being a talent or top flight player of superstar calibre.
Barça would have been the logical destination for an Atleti player, but they didn´t want him. Very few go from Manzanares to Chamartín, and vice versa, and Real Madrid definitely had no interest in him. He was an idol at Manzanares, but supported the ´meh´ moniker of many a pundit and fan.
He could not go anywhere else in Spain, and get the wages his agents were commanding.
The most surprised with his initial success on the Isles were the Spanish public at large.
Bho would say he´s no Secretariat, and is one of multiple horses who looked the part, but didn´t pan out.

Under any other circumstances, I would welcome back Torres... But with the fact that we brought in Sturridge, who sat on the bench behind Torres, I wouldnt do it...
He seems happy and ready to score goals for us... I think that move would deflate him...

I think the three biggest factors in Torres decline are:
1. Lost pace. He's a step slower than he used to be, and a step makes a huge difference. I don't know if it's aging or knee or both or neither, but he's not the burner he used to be.
2. No Gerrard. Stevie just set him up with so many chances. Even if Torres blew one, he knew he'd get more. Which brings me to...
3. Confidence. It's sort of a reiterating loops with Torress of blown chances and lost confidence. His opportunities are fewer and farther between, and it makes it that much more sobering to blow a chance. I think that's why his effort is down, too, because there's no joy in the game for him.

I think I have to agree with you on this ... BUT believe you me if the Torres move happened(given right price & we don't overpay) I would be estatic about it ... no matter what the reprocusions might be ... I just want to see him back in the RED #9
