In a few words, can someone explain why so many juniors are leaving?

Is it personal economics or dissatisfaction with the program?

I don't think it is due to anything wrong with LSU. It just so happens that this season we had a lot of talent and they are ready to make that paper.

And if they are leaving for economic reasons, are they evil?

Money. Why would you leave a program just because of dissatisfaction if youre not ready? If you're dissatisfied, you suck it up and improve your value because thats all you can do. The bottom line is these guys were told by people who grade for a living that they will make money next year rather than play for tuition and a meal program. Thats it.

If someone is willing to give them a shite ton of money to play football, it's time for them to go. Playing for free and risking injury any longer than is absolutely necessary is doing themselves a disservice.

A little bit of both. Mingo and Montgomery risked alot by coming back this year. It was supposed to be our title run with the players we had coming back from the previous season. Then, it fell apart with the TM situation, OL injuries, new QB,etc. Why risk coming back, getting hurt, and losing $$ again?

If this question is being raised, apparently it is not.

The rookie pay scale. This is the new normal.

Recruiting will change. Playing early will be the most important thing to the top recruits. The program that gets with the new deal is going to win.

I would say that there is probably a snowball effect / tipping-point effect occurring, at least to some degree.

These guys have known each other very well for the past few years, so if a few start taking off, then it's sort of natural that it would be easier for the rest to try to make a break as well.

People always crudely say "it's all about the money!!", but these are guys who know nothing about what it's like to try to start a career in the NFL. There's a whole lot of uncertainty involved, and sometimes guys would rather just chill out with their best bros for another year before being pushed out into cutting edge competition that they know is coming anyway. If their bros go early, they might go too.

How did they lose $ by coming back? Did they even have a choice to leave last year?

Guess I'm being a bit selfish to want them all to stay for what would be the best defense in college football... although if I were in their shoes I'd do precisely the same thing.

Good luck to all of them.

$$$

Most are going to be drafted high.
Some of them, especially a running back or two, aren't going to improve their draft stock at all and maybe will not be playing much at LSU next year because of all the talent.
Davenport fits in this category also.

This is a down year, talent wise, in the NFL draft.

I think a lot of players know if they do well at the combine and their pro days their stock will rise.
