What? Saban clobbered Miles this year? bullshite.

lolwut?

The players played their hearts out and stupid calls by Miles directly lead to ~9 points being left off the board. There is one reason we lost - Miles - we should have been up two scores on that last drive. The points were there, Miles just blew it. Therefore, Saban out coached him.

The same can be said of Saban in the 9-6 game. He went full retard and left points on the field trying to he cute while Miles played it safe.

Well I told you it was harder to maintain an elite program than to build one. Saban and Meyer both said this on the gameday set after the game. Yes I've forgotten more football than YOU will ever know. You're a fricking joke

That one loss, as you say (reality though is the last two losses to Bama costed us two titles but whatever), and that razor thin edge separates winners and losers. If a team consistently lands on the losing side at the end of the day...what's the difference.

No, the reality is five losses to six. I'm comparing their actual records. So our two losses to Bama mattered "more" than their two losses to us. That's just the luck of the draw again. It's a razor thin edge, I agree. But that means the water drop could fall in the other side next time with literally no change.

What did we do with all that talent: ZERO BCS bowl wins. I didn't just say National titles, I said BCS bowls. Think about that for a second.

OK, and what's the biggest factor in that? I would say it's the arbitrary rule preventing the SEC from getting more than two teams in there. The reason Oregon has more BCS wins than we do is that they have a far easier path to getting a bid. We're in a conference with three of the best programs in the nation over the past decade, plus another three or four top 15 programs.

quote:

LSU is not in a vacuum. Other teams are obviously rising to the occasion as of late with LESS NFL talent.

Exactly. Which is why I evaluate our performance in the context it happened, not removing it from said context. Louisville has more BCS wins over the past three years. Think they are a better program? Because I wouldn't trade with them on a bet.

So what makes the REAL difference?

Timing, scheduling, luck, and perception. But the gap is small, so why panic?

I think you are misreading my posts. I'm not panicking. In fact, I bring no emotion to this discussion. Those things you listed, particularly perception and scheduling aren't really going to change.

Further, until the offense changes and Miles takes a step back we'll continue to see the same results.

So, what's the difference between the two?

Be honest...

My point is, with the same results, we could have won those two titles and they won zero. It's a razor's edge, but also outside anyone's control.

I'm confused. I already equated them.

The obvious answer looks like 1/9 may have forever separated both their legacies.

Bingo.

The difference is the supposed "genius" of the two got a second chance to make good on a huge failure. Different standards for different schools. That's college football today.

Remember, when Saban was at LSU playing under standards, he had to "split" his only title with another media darling who didn't even play in the game.

College Football has become laughable to me. Literally. Double standards everywhere.

More power to Saban for winning now under standards he'd never have the luxury of having had he stayed at LSU.

I think what that shows is one coach adapts better than the other. That razor thin line, as Baloo sees it, is the very line that separates genius and good at that level.

While I see your point, what, exactly, did Saban have to "adapt" to? Learning how to beg properly?

Had Miles lost The Game of the Century, LSU would have been sent to the Sugar Bowl (and rightfully so). ESPN would have told Miles to go pound sand.

Miles literally had to go win the SECCG for the right to "rematch" a supposed genius coach he had already beaten on his home turf. (Not to mention Miles had already beaten the geniuses Kelley, Holgerson, and later Harley boy). Why can't people just admit that a bias got Saban where he is. A Genius shouldn't need that, no?

Again, a "genius" shouldn't need a second chance to beat a "good" coach after losing to him on his home turf.

Saban had to deal with this regarding Georgia when he was here. Didn't stop him.

In any event all this will be null and void when the playoff kicks in

Two MUCH different circumstances.

Also, Saban had to "split" his title when he was winning under LSU standards. How soon many forget this as well.

Think Saban will ever have to "split" anything at Bama? I'll answer that: Hell no, because at Bama, even when Saban loses, he somehow wins big.

Exactly. Saban will then know he has the luxury of never having to win the SECW again to make the playoff. What a good feeling that must be.

Stop it. This is what is so infuriating about some of you Miles sunshine pumpers. Les Miles does not = LSU football. He is the head coach, and as such is only one piece of the football team. Criticism of him does not automatically equal criticism of the football team.

read the comments.. Half these candy arse posters weren't talking about Miles. They're to busy pissing and moaning because they feel like Bamas little brother. You guys can suck Sabans dick all you want but I watched the Tigers take it to the gumps and were a first down away from the BCSCG.

I know Miles is hard headed and needs to fix the offense, but thats about the only complaint. Y'all just keep being miserable over it because I promise your feelings are gonna make a shite

Thank you! I guarantee you that Les Miles is the only coach in America that can get all up in Little Nickys head. I guess some of the guys would rather have someone like Brian Kelly. The past few years we didn't have a QB that we could trust to turn loose. After what happened to Lee do some of you arse hats really think Miles is just gonna throw Mett out in the fire and put him in over his head?

Even if no changes are made in the staff this off-season I will still guarantee our offense will look loads better next season. Its all about cohesiveness and we had none of that with the O-line this season. That's where the whole offense starts! Shitty O-line play equals shitty offense. Learn some damn football people!

Finally somebody gets it exactly right. It doesn't make a flying frick who the next OC is, because he will be in line with miles offensive philosophy, or he wouldn't have been hired to begin with. The cast may be different, but the director is unfortunately the same.
