According to FSU officials, Spradling has a broken pelvis, broken ribs, broken hips and a broken bone in his back. He'll be confined to a wheelchair for at least two to three months after he's released from the hospital.

quote:

“They think he’s going to be able to walk,” FSU assistant coach Mike Martin Jr. told Tallahassee.com. “They’re pretty confident as far as walking. He’ll probably never play baseball again, which is irrelevant right now.”

Spradling was apparently about 100 feet from the ground preparing to land when he spotted another skydiver coming straight at him. A collision likely would have killed both of them, so Spradling pulled hard on his chute but hit the ground extremely hard. He was hospitalized in Melbourne, Fla.

Is Florida State going to let him keep his scholly? Seems like skydiving would be a no-no.

The 15-20k they would save by pulling his scholarship is nowhere near worth the bad press it wouldget .

Sounds like life just has it out for him, 12 hit by pitches in 42 AB's

Not sure it would be bad PR. The reason he can't hold up his end of the scholly is that he voluntarily participated in a high risk activity. A pro team would cancel his contract and not pay him anything (pro contracts generally forbid any activity that carries a risk of serious injury.) His scholarship papers might even have similar language.

They'll probably just give a medical hardship to free up the baseball scholly, but he wouldn't really have a legitimate beef if they cut him off altogether.

I'd imagine he will be suing the skydiving company.
