I like both of those albums but they aren't near the albums the group as a whole put out. To claim Gilmour is a better songwriter than Waters is absurd.
I will say, Wish You Were Here is my favorite Floyd album.

Not knocking the other albums at all. WYWH just always hits the right spot.

That's all opinion. I hate Waters as a songwriter because most of his shite is too weird.(The entire The Final Cut album)

this thread didn't go as I expected.

I prefer Gilmour, but I thought this would turn into a "Pink Floyd isn't Pink Floyd without Roger Waters" debate.

So, I take it you hate The Wall and Wish You Were Here...

There was a thread a while back where somebody actually seriously stated that Gilmour is a better lyricist, which is beyond absurd.

The Wall

I hated The Wall minus Comfortably Numb. And I do love Wish You Were Here.

That's a shame. Probably my favorite Pink Floyd album.

Gilmour every day of the week for me

His guitar work cannot be matched by anyone. Those gloomy solos give me chills. His guitar does the singing. I'll take that and his voice any day over Waters' writing ability. There are way better songwriters anyway.

I'll take Syd Barrett over Roger Waters.

And people were saying Roger Waters is weird. I think that a lot of songs that Waters wrote were about Syd actually.

Pink Floyd to be it's best required both. Gilmour added a helluva lot more to the group on stage however.

Roger Waters.

Songwriting is the most important thing.

Waters. Essential to Dark Side of the Moon and sole creator of The Wall.

Well you can't have songs without songwriters. There's a reason royalties are often distributed based on songwriting credits.

Waters wrote a hell of a lot more songs for Pink Floyd than Gilmour.

I could listen to the entire dogs album if it was sang in Klingon.

He did, and I don't mind the songs he wrote which Gilmour sang, such as WYWH. But it seemed like wrote songs differently when he had intentions of singing it.(The Final Cut album)

You do realize songwriting is more than just the lyrics?
