re: Post of the Year

I saw that. It's very cute. Reminds me of the Second Place Post of the Year: Rex and Maggie urging you not to vote for Mitt Romney.

Sure... it's still a free country despite what the Obama haters tell you.

I enjoyed the Rex costume thread immensely.
That was solid.

What drives the punitive mind of people like Rex? It seems the knowledge that certain policies will not benefit the country are cast aside as irrelevant as long as others do no succeed at a greater rate than themselves.

They prefer to see everyone falter and stumble than to see anyone succeed. Even more dispiriting is their apparent disgust at the idea of the nation as whole benefiting to a small degree while others make advances by leaps and bounds, ignoring that a rising tide raises all ships.

That's quite a stupid post considering that as a retired person my own income and livelihood are almost 100% tied to stock market gains and losses.

the mind of progressives is based in the thought that we need government to push societal progress

they see certain policies as possibly affecting the direct goal of that policy, and since it may work, it's worth trying. unintended consequences aren't discussed because they have tunnel vision on particular issues

one of the ironies of progressives is that they OFTEN see boogeymen in big, powerful organizations that direct human behavior (namely, evil corporations or churches). they do not seem to find the same evil in equivalent bodies, as long as those bodies are working towards the progress that they believe in

it's a similar situation to hating religion or being a "boring corporate drone" for handing down ideologies or expectations of behavior, while they fully accept the ideologies and expectations of behaviors of those who create progressive policies

Because you don't qualify for any government benefits: social security, medicaid, etc.?

I'm not old enough to receive social security, medicare, medicaid, etc. and not poor enough to receive any other form of government welfare monetary assistance.

solid post - logical thinking - can't add anything to it.

Rex,

You man/canine-like God, God-like canine/man.

You sporter of dog headgear of Magneto like power (impenetrable to reason, logic, or debate)

Rex, plain and simple, you are the man. Continue to not let anyone convince you otherwise (or convince you of anything except the gospel according to Rex)

I don't understand how this works. You have no income outside of your investments, which you seem to survive off of, and your income from these investments is sufficient to preclude government assistance? I don't know how these programs work. Please illuminate if you can.

You must be either very wealthy or very dumb for retiring.

That's the way it's been, yes.

Nope... just comfortable with what I have.

Again no. Worked myself to burnout... and now I'm quite happy in my retirement. I consider myself fortunate. I may need government assistance one day and will deal with all that then... there are no guarantees in life.
