So I picked up the Primo XL last month. A big thanks to Wickowick for making it happen. I owe you one bud...

I didnt feel like dropping $700-900 for the Primo brand tables so I enlisted the help of a neighbor of mine which does cabinetry for a living. There are several templates available online that we used for inspiration. It took him a few weeks mostly working on the table as a side job. The table and grill were finally united last night.

The table is Western Red Cedar finished with several coats of Danish oil, heavy duty caster type locking wheels and the lower surface is framed of cedar but the panel is actually a sheet of cement board cut to size with black granite tiles applied over the top. Much better than the Primo tables and at rougly half the cost.

Will do my first cook later...

Gonna break her in easy tonite, got some Asian style beef shortribs marinating now along with some peri-peri style chicken kabobs. Caught a good deal on the drip pan holder and ceramic deflector plates and will do a brisket and pork butt later this week.

It is a tunge oil based finish that penetrates the wood and makes the grain stand out , no varnish needed. Additional coats can be added later with no sanding or refinishing. I used it on my wood floors in my home.

You don't need that much...

ETA- If you are in Baton Rouge I have some extra that you can use and bring the rest back. It is the regular but should work fine if not exposed to UV light daily

The table was built by a local craftsman/cabinet maker here in Tampa.

After investing in the lumber, casters, tiles and cement board plus paying him for his time and delivery the table cost about $500. I believe the Primo brand tables run anywhere from $700-900 and are smaller, unfinished and without the granite work.

Without the granite and using a less expensive wood and/or cheaper wheels or no wheels it could be made for $250-350. Not paying for labor could make it very cheap. Alas, I have zero carpentry skills or tools and labor is a must for me..

Uncle Jack, the plans for this table are all over the web. It's very easy to build, with just a little knowledge.

I wish I had the $ at the time to join in on the Primo order. If you ever do another one, let me know! (which I doubt you will)
