no, the because should stay. there is a cause and effect in this statement. a better way to put it would be: he freed the slaves; therefore, he was made brown and ignored by the other presidents

i agree with you; the "because" should stay. i also liked this post because i love slaves as people; i didn't ignore this post because i don't want them to die.

Why not leave two independent and one dependent clause to make it a compound-complex?
