What say the OB? Any regular maintnence practices for your fishing reels.

All I do is rinse 'em off with fresh water after each trip.

Worst thing you can do is dip them in water. Would you dip any moving parts on your vehicle in water that need grease/oil to reduce friction?

ETA: There are some good youtube videos out there to help you take a reel down and clean it. Mainly want to whipe everything and reoil. One of the most common mistakes on reels is putting too much oil. WIll slow it down.

I lightly spray the outside to rinse any salt off. I don't use too much pressure, don't want to force water inside. Every other trip or so in the salt I reoil everything.

Freshwater I do nothing. If they get rained on I let dry. Clean and reoil once a year or so, unless it needs it sooner

I only fish freshwater. Once a year, I'll break them down and clean the gears and bearings. Re-grease, re-oil, re-spool. Then they sit for another year.

This, but they get used a good bit, will respool certain ones twice a year.

I hose em down after every trip and haven't had issues except for the one I completely submerged while surf fishing... That one had to visit the shop.

Well shite, I just soaked my curados in warm water yesterday. Guess I will re-oil every exposed part I can.

for salt water, i've heard spraying with alcohol since it dries fast.

definitely dont want to get water deep into the reel though
