Southern (brand) BBQ sauce out of business???

During a Christmas get-together in the Welsh-Jennings area, I was informed that supposedly Southern has gone out of business. I have always been a big fan of their BBQ sauce (WAY more than Jack Miller's) and had used their roux, spices and marinades. From what I heard, they just closed up shop recently.
Anyone know anything more?
Their website only shows the following image:
Oh, and for you LSU season ticket holders, looks like LSU just lost a sponsor... TAF fees gonna rise!!!

Their BBQ sauce was terrible... in my humble opinion.

They really pushed it during baseball season. I never found it that good. Sucks for them.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, and if this news is true, then perhaps you aren't alone.
I have always liked this "style" of BBQ sauce, but thought Jack Miller's had way too much of a mustard taste to it.
The Tabasco version isn't bad, imo...

I wasn't a fan either.

Darla mourns the loss of them.

Mostly it seemed more like a bastardized salsa than BBQ sauce to me.

So do you feel the same about Jack Miller's and others like that?

I thought their non chopped onion based BBQ sauce that was sweet and spicy was pretty good for pulled pork when I dont make my own.
I dont care for the onion grease stuff myself just gives heartburn.

Haven't tried it, actually.

I had never tried it until I read on here that they might be going under a couple of weeks ago. I checked at Rouse's here in Metairie, and they still had some on the shelves, so I bought a couple and liked it.
I still have some, so I may try to clone it like I did Jack Miller's. (See recipe book for Ville Platte BBQ Sauce.) My grandfather made a similar, but much simpler sauce so I had a head start on how to do it. My grandfather was from Welsh.

I do, I really do. Southern is the sauce I grew up with. It's gone out of business twice before and the recipe has changed a little with different owners. It's always been a very regional taste and I think the current owners really tried to make a big push for it to gain wider popularity (via the LSU market, I guess), but it didn't seem to work for them.
Poche's has a similar style of barbecue sauce that they serve in the plate lunch line. When all the Southern is gone, maybe I'll get some of theirs. It's good.

I was told that the founder of the company turned the operations over to a son and he didn't manage it very well. For instance, I was told that they paid $500,000 to be the "Official BBQ Sauce of LSU Athletics".
Not vouching for the facts, but the fact that they seem to be out of business is interesting.
I really liked their spray basting sauce.

Same here... At all of the local fairs the BBQ burgers were all made with Southern. Good times!

Not familiar with it... Now that I am in Houston, though, I have accepted the Tabasco version.

A few years ago I took some people to downtown Iota for their Mardi Gras festival after we watched the chicken chase in Tee Mamou. I told them to be on the lookout for some good BBQ burgers. Later, one of the ladies said, "I never could find those BBQ burgers, but the one I had with grilled onions was wondeful!" And of course, it was Southern sauce.
