Long Range Target Shooting

Does anyone on this board have a sweet long range setup... I got to shoot a guys Savage 10/110 in .338 lapua this weekend. He had a Night Force scope... it was a sweet setup.
We blew some balloons up took a few shots from around 700 yards... never hit them but it was damn fun... When we were shooting we thought they were around 500/550 yards away so we used the wrong yardage markers on the scope.
makes me want a long range setup... but i'm not gonna tie that much money up.

I used to shoot the m-24 with a lot of success at that distance. Although you can't buy one you could put one together fairly cheap and almost identical.

I have a rem 700 sendero sf-ii with a mcmillan stock, jewel trigger, and a meopta 4-16x44 scope. I also run berger 168 vld's through it. It will punch them pretty good at 600 all day. That is the farthest I have been able to shoot sadly.

Despite popular belief, you only have to tie up a lot of money if you want to. A Remington ltr 700 with a nice scope is a hell of a combo.
Only 700 yards with that 338? Hardly worth pulling the trigger with the ammo costs.
Everyone here knows I shoot a 260 Remington, I've had it out to 1000 and its still supersonic. Ill try to get it out further when we for hunting in January.

I've got a 700 PSS .308 with a Leupold Mark 4 but I've only got a spot where I can shoot it out to 504.
But boy is it ever fun to shoot.

BTW- it's a great, easy set up for anyone to shoot far with an accurate ballistics table. Dial the drop, and most any decent shooter has no issues at 500-plus yards with it.

I have an 800 yard range at the house so that is as far as I have shot. I use a .308 I had re worked and can normally hit a pumpkin with water in it on the first shot between 500-800 yards. However it's all about the trigger pull IMO at long distances the gun just ensures you will hit where you are aiming.

When are we going shooting? You got a 800 yard range in Folsom? I got a piece of steel we can ring.

If he's in Folsom I'm in on that too

Ya'll just let me know when you want to shoot. It gets harder to do when the hay gets grown up, but winter time is perfect.

He reloads so not a huge deal... We took under 30 shots all day... When u have 5k tied up in a gun u better not care about 2 dollar bullets
