Got a son starting high school ball this year and wondering who are some of the local Baton Rouge players that may be heading to LSU in the next 4 years.

Justin Williams is going to be this years Josh Bell. Polished bat with a boatload of power potential. Great speed as an added bonus. Justin, his family, and friends, will continue to fortify his commitment to LSU as they should. No matter how strong a pledge is to a school 1st round money is life changing for 100% of high school athletes.

We have had a very rough go at it with Top 5ish round draftees in the Mainieri era. Now you never EXPECT to keep those kind of guys, but I have to say it's frustrating seeing other schools do it (and more than once recently for some schools) on occasion. I just dont get why no kid of all the ones we've had in that range doesnt want to come to LSU but many other kids go to UF, UCLA, (USCe?) etc...

Won't play a game at LSU unless the team that drafts him completely shites the bed in negotiations. These college commitments are all about leverage

Who can blame the kids for leaving when they are drafted in the first five rounds. When drafted that high they receive the full attention of the organization, not to mention most players that make the bigs play in the minors for 3-5 years. It's the difference in making the league at 21 or 25. Money talks.

I know he ran the adult softball field on the eastside of Houma. I talked to him a few times about Justin. He is a big Tiger fan but I'm sure it will be tough to pass on the money that will be thrown his way.

Im not blaming them, nor am I saying we should get all of them or most of them. I am asking why Mainieri has not gotten 1 and several other programs still seem to hold onto 1 or 2 at a time at times.

in defense of him, he has gotten some kids that because of their commitments to LSU, dropped in the draft. Mahtook, Jared Mithcell, DJ Lemahieu, & Ranaudo come to mind off the top of my head.

The way it works now, you'll see more of them come to college. I think Mainieri got one this year who would've been a top 5 rounder in Bregman

Usually 2-3 players a year get drafted in 1st rd and don't go.

Regardless you have to take everything with a grain of salt. After the Zach Lee and ZVR debacles, I've learned not to believe anything recruits say until they have signed on the dotted line or the draft signing deadline has passed.

Name some?

So far i feel Coach M has done a good job of walking the fine line of signing talent who could be here vs going pro. Hardest part of college baseball recruiting is signing good talent, but not great talent that would never get to campus. As far coaching that talent, another story another day...

I'm sure his family is looking at what a few years of batting instruction from Javi would do to his MLB potential.

Gausman was top 5 round talent that dropped on draft day due to negotiations that was obviously a huge get for LSU.

The new collective bargaining agreement in MLB will be sending more to college for sure. The signing bonuses are slotted now, so unless he is a 1st round pick, I bet we see him on campus.

Definitely... You can add Bregman to that list. He is a top 5 rd talent no doubt, but his sign ability was an issue, because of his strong commitment to LSU. Same thing with Aaron Nola.
