To halfway answer your question, maybe so. I shot one Saturday in the head, there was bill hanging everywhere. And don't text and drive.

Pretty colors. Around here some folks call them pond inspectors. No idea why. It's an Oak Ridge- MerRouge thang.

It's not just the bill for me, it's the fact they are dumb as shite. Even though I do love when a spoonbill hen is leading a big bunch of mallards, it is almost certain death for the mallards.

Do this one day......

Kill a spoonie hen, then take your pocket knife and trim her bill up.

Show her to some people at the launch/camp, and tell them you killed a Pygmy Mallard hen.

seems like it's the taste. they eat alot of crustaceans, and thus taste worse than the vegetarian ducks.

depends on what they are eating. in ricefields, just fine. down in the marsh, gamey.

canvas backs are as dumb as dos gris.. .and my great grand paw was a market hunter...

I still have the price list from his grocery...

ONE canvasback was the same price as a pair of mallards....

I think a mature drake is a fine looking bird. I have a friend who has a pair of about everything mounted, and the spoonie drake looks as good as any in my opinion. They taste like a merganser though, about like eating marsh mud if you ask me.
