Haven't seen a damn thing this year. I've heard others in the area near Robert, Amite and Franklinton haven't seen much movement.

That flood water from Issac was high and stayed high for a long time. Might have relocated some deer...

Washington Parish is WAY off from most I have talked with. Our club with 12 members on 2000 acres has killed 4 so far, no bucks all does. It has been a crazy year so far.

I've heard that too but I've heard that other areas are experiencing the same thing.

I wonder if it is the weather. It's been unseasonably warm.

Dont know if it's weather, acorns, pigs, or a combination of all but it's screwy. Of course IMO Washington parish has the most nocturnal deer I have ever seen anywhere.

We've had a lot of pigs too but I can't say it's any more than usual but there hasn't been a day here yet that I've needed to wear cold weather gear. At least not when I was able to hunt.

weather has something to do with it for sure. however, hogs eating the same food as deer (and damn near anything else), and coyote pressure on fawns may be starting to show effects more and more.

the number of fawns those damn things take out of the herd is way more than we realize. next time you see a doe that is FAT you are prob looking at one that recently lost a still-nursing yearling and she has blown up (think butt like a gov't mule)

My place is new to hogs in the last 1.5 years. However we actively trap hogs an yotes. The yotes for well over 15 years. I think it's just an odd year, normally seeing good pre rut right about now but not really happening yet. They will start doing it here soon.

dave moreland once quoted in article as saying hogs are the biggest threat to the states deer herd other than loss of habitat

By odd year, what do you attribute it to? Sounds like we're all experiencing the same thing.

Issac is responsible for damn near all of it IMO

I don't have a concrete cause. For us I would say hogs but if it were just the hogs other places would be killing deer. I think it's the warm weather, and another bumper acorn crop keeping them in the woods and not really in plots and such yet. WE need it to get cold to get the deer moving and also get them thinking about some snatch.

I don't over think why I just put my time into making my area the best for deer it can be, the rest is up to mother nature.

The flood, plus the blue tongue disease has decimated the population. The deer are poor and the coyotes are fat.

I've come across 4 dead deer this year (with limited walking), and saw my first live deer this Sunday.

The deer that did survive were bucks and old ones from what I've seen.

the only thing that makes me think that it may be something other than hogs or yotes is that it is so widespread.
