I'm curious about the gun trust process as well. What all kinds of protections will it give me? Does it expedite the purchase process of Title II weapons at all?

don't know about protections, but there are many positive consequences to setting up a trust, especially one that is designed to purchase NFA weapons through.
When purchasing/ building and NFA weapon (silencer/ short barreled rifle) through a trust, there are no finger prints to be done on you and you do not need the permission of your Chief Law Enforcement Officer. This reduces 2 key steps that can hold you up and make more headaches with the whole process.
Having a trust allows you to E-file which is done online and has cut the wait times drastically (some people are claiming 30-60 day turn around) when compared to paper filing.
Having a trust allows you to be able to have multiple people included in it which could be a means of succession to pass down to kin with no additional paperwork, as the trust owns the firearm, not the individual. it also allows these mentioned "others" to be in possession of said NFA items at any time.
