It was righteous. This is going to be an expensive arse hobby.

Drilled the explosive from 50 yards with my buddy's gun with Troy sights. The Troy sights are nice and I wish I had them but there is a margin of error because the large size of the rear sight. Took me a few shots but it was awesome when I hit it.
ETA: Not looking forward to cleaning this damn thing.

What do you mean when you say registered? Does it need to be marked as pistol on the lower?
I always thought for an AR pistol you just needed the pistol buffer tube?
The ATF requires that the lower receiver be registered as either a rifle or a pistol. If your lower is registered as a rifle barrel length regulations apply. If your lower is registered as a pistol there can be no foregrip or stock. You can use any buffer tube you just cant put a stock on it.
Once you add either the butt stock or fore grip you "have" to pay the sbr tax same as if you have a barrel length shorter than 14 inches.

I just always assumed all you needed was the no stock/foregrip. Didnt realize it had to be registered.
Good thing I didn't build one

Very well said, however, it can also be registered as "other" too.

How often should I clean the gun? After every time I shoot or just a certain number of rounds?
Posted on 6/9/13 at 3:25 pm to Drew Orleans
Its not a bad idea every time, but as long as you arent shooting corrosive ammo, you can go quite awhile without cleaning it. I usually clean it every couple trips or randomly when I am bored
Posted on 6/9/13 at 3:30 pm to RATeamWannabe
I only put 60 rounds through it and would like to clean it. It just takes me a long arse time because I tend to overdo it.

Meh, take out the BCG and spray it down, let it sit while you run a few patches down the bore and barrel and then scrub down the BCG and wipe a little lube on it.

Apparently, Independence ammo is junk because when I went to clean the way you suggested I quickly saw how dirty the entire inside was. Had to spray down the entire upper receiver and take cue-tips to it. Didn't clean the lower as well, just have the hammer and area around it a quick wipe down.

Why are you having to register anything? Do you mean how the receiver is described on the 4473? You shouldn't have to register at all, as far as I understand.

TulAmmo is junk too. Fired 160 rounds of it through a brand new Colt LE-6920 and a casing got stuck so bad in the barrel i sent it back to colt. They fixed it no charge, but it took 2.5 months.

Some things you can't do with a gun without a ton of paperwork, a registry, and sending money to the ATF among other things...
1) Having a rifle with a barrel less than 16"
2) Having a pistol with a stock or forearm grip
This criteria make a gun fall into the NFA category, the same as a machine gun...

I fully understand that part. I'm just not understanding registering a lower as a "pistol". Really, I'm not understanding why people are registering period. I'm not talking about NFA weapons.

Another AR newbie question.
What is the purpose of buying so many PMAGS? If I buy 2-3 how long do they last? Are you supposed to trash a mag after so many rounds?
TIA

People buy a lower, make it a pistol. Send in their paperwork. Play with their pistol. Paperwork comes back and they throw a stock on the pistol.
This is an over simplicity of it but I am at Disney and mad that my suppressor still ain't been approved.
