Yep, Austin has more of a libertarian vibe IMO. It has pockets of liberals.

Juneau is more similar to Portland, Maine or Eugene, Oregon.

quote:

Tim is the guy that will drink mainstream beer his whole life, and never get into the true unique glory of great microbrews. Tim is the guy who prefers a chain restaurant to a place filled with creativity and people unique to a certain area. Tim is the guy who wants the entire world to turn into a strip mall of Longhorn Steahouses, Applebees, Lowe's, and Wal-Marts. The saddest part is he is drawing his beliefs from a lifetime of living in a certain reality, he's never ventured to the other side to see if it has anything to offer.

Haha, I wonder what you would have said if someone you didn't hate was arguing this point.

WTF?

I think you take this stuff too seriously. I don't have anyone in real life, much less some persona on a message board.

Does banning smoking in public parks and banning single-use plastic and paper bags at stores sound libertarian to you folks?

How about being the home of the first public housing project in the United States?

I think some folks are confusing Austin with unincorporated western Travis County and the Williamson County suburbs to the north, which is not "Austin."

Can we just make this thread a consensus on the overarching opinion the board members have in the city of Austin? I've never been, but I hear its a great place to visit, as is San Francisco.

Okay..

I just think its funny how a few of you attack me non stop.

In my first message about this comparison I said that Juneau get's a lot of people from the Northwest of the lower 48. I made a point that Austin has 1 million people, Juneau has 30k. That Juneau has big influence from places like Seattle, and said it's very liberal.. but to say it's "flaming liberal compared to Austin" is absolutely insane. I essentially said the same thing you did about the northwest influence.. yet I get met with "WTFs" and people telling me I'm wrong.

Seattle may be the most liberal city in the country. Austin is not remotely comparable to Seattle. Id' argue that Juneau is not either.

What?

Yes, I know Seattle is extremely liberal.. I said Juneau is influenced by that city, not that it is as liberal. This is just getting bizarre, you guys have so much hate for me you can't even recognize when we're on the same page (or near the same page).

Where did your absurd rant on craft beer and chain restaurants come into play?

Stop with the "everybody hates me" crap. Nobody hates you. You're not that important to be hated by anybody.

No dipshit, once again, you are arguing with someone (in this case a Juneau resident) who is more expert than you on a subject.

Clear?

Man, your anti social opens yourself up to all kinds of ridicule. Attacking others for a lack of intelligence and misspelling words over and over doesn't help the ridicule either.

Well, generally "liberal" in Shreveport probably isn't that liberal in Portland. I see people calling mainstream Dems socialists and laugh a bit, because we have some real die hard socialist wannabes in the NW.

All municipal governments pass regulations. Regardless of population, I doubt you will find any city govt that is run by libertarians.

Austin is a pretty nice city, but it's not nearly as "weird" as Portland, SF or Seattle.
