frick any of you with this attitude, it's your damn responsibility as the driver of the car, your passengers aren't feeling what you're feeling they just have your actions to judge from.

If driving drunk was only a crime if you killed someone, then a lot more people would be killed by drunk drivers. . . On principle, Brent did a terrible thing. He deserves to be treated accordingly.

I am unaffected. 100%. So they need to do what they feel is best.

Out of respect for Brown I wasn't going to do this, but now I will. Brent and Brown are/was both two very stupid mf'ers. Brown had a DUI on his record as well. He was not a victim. Personally I think Brent needs to have his arse handed to him over the second DUI. But that does not negate the fact that Brown was an idiot for getting in the vehicle with him. He wasn't fricking kidnapped moron. So frick you right back for you stupid train of thought.

Does anyone honestly think that Brent has driven drunk only this one time since his previous arrest? No jail time is ludicrous. He's a repeat offender who just as easily could have killed me & my family had my car been in his path. But please do be lenient to him because, this time, the victim was as stupid as he was. The 3rd or 4th time mabe he will only kill a totally innocent person & then he can be taken off the streets. As for his teammates, that is their call & I don't judge.

Re-read my post. I don't want them to take it easy on him at all. Give him whatever the max is for a second offense DUI. Quit putting words in my mouth.

Brown's mother.....I respect the hell out of her.

"I realized that everyone thinks they're invincible, and everyone thinks, 'It's not going to happen to me.' I know Josh Brent, and he's been part of our family since Jerry went to the University of Illinois -- all I can do is to pray for him and his family. I know [Brent] is hurting just as much as we are, because [he] and Jerry were like brothers.

Fully responsible?

He forced him in that car?

The team and family got it right imo.

I just get tired of people being made out to be a victim when their own carelessness puts them in the position to start with. I'm not trying to defend Brent for his ignorance in any way whatsoever.

D'Naquin, I was not responding to you directly; rather, it seems that the majority of Brent's defenders here do not feel he should suffer significant punishment because the person he killed was as dumb as he is. But the "max for a second offense DUI" is not the same as manslaughter, which I feel he should get.I want him off the streets, period, to save innocent lives. Stats are pretty definitive that the recividism rate for DUI is high.

Trust me, if he had hit and killed an innocent I would be screaming for his head. But he did not, the only person to be killed wasn't innocent at all. With that said, our current laws call for Brent to be charged and tried with vehicular homicide. This was a consequence that he had to have known about before making the terrible decision that he did. Therefore, he should be prosecuted with the full force of the law.

I have no mercy for drunk drivers. They deserve a severe punishment. I have also seen many people killed by drunk drivers and it is such a stupid crime. Call a dang cab or a sober friend or plan ahead. And the passengers who get into cars with drunk drivers are dumber than the drunk drivers, esp if they are sober. I have seen that many times also. Stupid.

I'll post this again from earlier in the thread.

I support Brent as well. He should suffer the consequences of his second DUI, maybe do some jail time to teach him a lesson. Brown is more responsible for his own death than Brent, IMO. He made the choice to get in the car with his friend who had been drinking, but we never want to blame the party who died.

I agree with this. I couldnt imagine be responsible for the death of a loved one whether by accident or due to negligence. It's something he will live with forever.

I admire his mom for the strength to publicly show compassion.

They are not excusing his behavior. He will be punished and rightfully so - no one is trying to justify his actions or prove him innocent of any wrongdoing. They are simply supporting a member of their family that made a mistake and is suffering from it, and will pay for it the rest of his life - even after he gets out of prison.

Obviously you are very young - as you get older your friends, or your family members, and even yourself, will make regrettable mistakes and go through tough times, and you will be thankful for those who reached out to support you and didn't turn their back. I was idealistic when I was in my early 20's - the older I get, the more I realize how easy one can fall, and how wrong it is to be judgmental considering that none of us is perfect.
