I don't understand why such a big deal is being made about Lewis's range and jab
He KO'd his first pro opponent with a fricking jab that's why.

You should see some of the garbage they drag out for pro debuts for guys with decent amateur backgrounds. It's honestly a shame

Not sure of greatest but John Ruiz was the worst and most boring hw to ever hold a title Hahaha.

Jack Johnson doc.
Some people in this thread should see Johnson's greatness. This is one of the better documentaries i've seen on him. It's long. If you have time, its a good watch.

Misleading.
The 1947 fight against Walcott is widely considered to be the biggest ripoff in boxing history. Walcott won that fight by any objective standard.
Also, look to see how many times Louis fought between 1941-1950.
Also note that Louis "retired" in 1949 before coming back to get a no decision against some guy named Johnny Schkor and then getting beat by Ezzard Charles.

That's ludicrous. The Tyson excuse train rolls hard.
I'm not making excuses for Tyson. Note that my stance on Tyson has been the same throughout this thread. He fired Cayton and Rooney after the Spinks fight, and completely self-destructed both as a fighter and a human being after that.

Didn't he also fight in WWII?

He served. Fought a bunch of exhibitions to raise money for the troops while he was in the service. Got screwed by the IRS because they considered that "taxable income." Even though it was all going to the troops. Went bankrupt as a result and has to come out of retirement to make money when he had no business still fighting.

And, to be clear, your statement has no bearing on the statement you quoted.
Ali in his prime would have absolutely made Joe Louis look silly. He was in a different category athletically. Taller, heavier, way way faster, better footwork, better defensively. It wouldn't have been a close fight.

exhibitions
What i was getting at. His title was never held up in those fights. Therefore, he was champ throughout without having to put his title up.

He holds the record for the most title defenses 25.

You realize that he was enlisted in the army in Jan of 1942. He only had one fight between then and Nov of 1944.

Which is exactly why it's misleading to say 1937-1950

See definition of Tyson's prime. It's a damn shame that he unraveled both as a fighter and a person after firing Rooney and Cayton at the ripe old age of 22. But it's undeniably true.
