I thought it was funny you bring up CL in a ''superclass'' then thought about it and figured there had to be a Lafourche team in there. Or at the very least a Tri-Parish team.

Menard was the head coach at Catholic NI this year. He's gone 46-16 the past 5 years at Many & Catholic NI. He's going to be the most accomplished head coach in Terrebonne / Lafourche. Also was 1997 1A coach of year & 2008 2A coach of year. At the very least CL is going to throw the ball for the first time in 15 years, Menard runs the spread.

- 4 District Championships, 5 playoff Trips, 3 Quarterfinal appearances in past 5 years

Catholic NI
2012 - 8-3 - District Champs / Regional Playoffs
2011 - 12-2 District Champs / Quarterfinals Playoffs lost to Evangel
2010 - 4-7 Bi-District Playoffs

Many
2009 - 11-2 District Champs / Quarterfinals Playoffs lost to Evangel
2008 - 11-2 District Champs/ Quarterfinals Playoffs lost to Evangel

I hear you. All my family are Tarpons. I'm the only one in my family that's a Trojan. It sucks going down the bayou for holidays after we lose.

Does Sulphur still have one of the highest enrollments in the state? I believe Sam Houston is also one of the fastest growing schools in the state and will be 5A soon.

West Monroe,Neville, Karr, And St. Aug only teams who could compete in 2/3 major sports year in and year out

Barbe and Rummel just played in the baseball and football championship.

Jesuit has won basketball and baseball titles in the past few years and are competitive in football every year.

There are many many more teams that would compete as well.

Jesuit has 35 State Championships in football, baseball, and basketball. 5 total in bball and baseball since 2000.

Add up WM, Karr, Neville, and Aug's championships combined and let me know where they come up at

Hahnville was pretty much always with the bayou district that's why their records vs the bayou teams are nearly even, we played them when they were good, we played them when they were bad. Destrehan & ESJ only played the bayou teams when they were down for the most.

Yep, I was born in '60 and remember the rivalries well. I was a ball boy when my dad was on the staff and Assistant Principal in the mid -60's to the early 70-'s.....still have the 68 and 72 State Champ Jackets. We were down in the later 70's and up and down in the 80's in football (baseball we never really had trouble). Hahnville is on a down cycle right now, but Destrehan will be good next year, they return everything on offense but Rickey Jefferson and he's not a huge loss for them. Their QB is for real. ESJ always has tremendous athletes, they just don't fulfill their potential for some reason. They do play much better since Banko took over. I look for Desty and ESJ to play for the district title next year with little opposition outside of Hahnville and maybe South (not sure how much they lost.) BTW, Menard should be a good hire if they leave him alone.

Does Coach Gros (Bob) still live in the area? I wish he would have stayed at HHS until I got there, loved the man.

Curtis has always said they didn't want to move up bc it would affect other sports. But if you can field a football team with 100 kids, you'd think you could field baseball, softball, Bball etc.

Not really. 40 percent or less of the schools population is girls and you have to split that between girls who play volleyball, basketball, track, cross country, softball, and cheerleading/ dance line. They would struggle in 5a really bad. And for the boys teams, yes basketball, wrestling, track, and baseball would do well, but they would not have the overall numbers to compete with 5a schools.

OP, is there any reason to think something like this will ever happen?

re: If there were a "super class" in LHSAA football

That enrollment thing definitely isn't true. Parkview's campus is extremely landlocked. They have no where to expand to fit more students.

You might be right, I'm just going by what people at PBS have told me, ie, "football will never let us get above 650 students", etc. It might just be secondhand BS. It's been a long time since I was a PBS student.

But to be fair, it still doesn't make sense why their enrollment would be as low as it is. It's the most established non-Catholic private school in BR (a city that is majority non-Catholic), has the best location (Airline Hwy, not far from I-10 and I-12 and 10 minutes from booming Ascension Parish), and gets the best PR of anyone in the area with their dominant football program and success in other sports.

Back in the late 90's when the EBR publics crumbled to new depths, PBS went from 0-10 to 10-0 in football...yet remained 3A. So while some saw the EBR failings as a boost to PBS enrollment (and therefore responsible for the turnaround in football), in actuality it didn't change enrollment. It just allowed them to be more selective and, apparently, give the gifted athletes and giant linemen priority in admissions. (Again, nothing wrong with that, I think more HS's should do it)

You might have a point about lack of land, but I know they've built some new buildings since I was a student there including a new gym. And, they have to account for their PK-8th grades too.

The demand is clearly there to support 1000+ HS students. I understand if they don't want to get that big, or don't have room to, and football staying in 3A may only be a small reason why. When the LHSAA allowed schools to "play up", PBS could have jumped up to 4A (unless I'm mistaken) but chose to stay at 3A. If given the chance to play in a "super class", I'm not sure they'd do it.

They could do like Curtis and move lower grades to another location down the road, although I'm not real familiar with Parkviews location and enrollment.
I can say I have gotten to know 4 or 5 young men who played Baseball at Parkview the last few years and they are some outstanding young men, not just athletes.
