re: Beginner set of golf clubs

Here is a true story that as remained a secret up until today....

There was this golf course in Algiers called Lakewood country club on General DeGaule. The PGA use to play there before Nicholas built English Turn in Lower Coast. Anyway one Saturday afternoon I was playing golf with my mom there. After our tee offs we got into the cart and proceeded down the fairway. She hit her golf ball next because I out drove her. She hit the ball about 100 yards down the fairway but instead of riding with after I hit, she instead choose to walk to her ball. So I got my 5 iron out and proceeded to warm up. I addressed the ball and took a swing. I hit the ball crisply with alot of force and due to the heat and humidity, my club flew out of my hand like a rocket 100s feet in the air....heading directly for my MOM! I watched in disbelief as to what I was seeing. My mom continued to walk towards her ball with her back to me and my 5 iron was homing in on her like a missle.... Right at the moment I thought ie was going to hit her, it feel short of her only about 5 feet and stuck into the soft gumbo like soil. I quickly got into the cart and as I drove by it I grabbed it with my hand.

I feel better now.....

I have. Was this vedio that came out called "Shot the ball as straight as you can point or get your money back". Cost $500. It was a set of 6 veds telling you how to swing. Me and about 10 other friends pitched it. Was will worth it. Bottom line DONT BY CHEAP arse Clubs. Go spend the money and get fitted. If not, you will spend 1000's on lessons, practicing, clubs...etc when you could have bought a good set and saved your self grief...

This Is one of the dumbest thing I've ever heard on here.
There is no reason for someone who's never played to go get fitted and get a nice set. Dude doesnt even know if he'll like the game @ this point. Unless he's 4'9" or 6'7" just about any standard set will do for now. Spend 150.00 - 300.00 go play @ Howell, Dumas, Webb, and City and see if you like the game 6 months - year from now THEN MAYBE go get fitted. I shoot in the mid 80's and I play used $160.00 old arse Ping Zing black dots. No fitting.

If you've never played and you shot under 100 your first time out I'd say you were a liar.

re: Beginner set of golf clubs

Plenty of sets out there and a lot of the courses listed above are good for beginners. So I'll give you two thing other than those.

1/ Take a few lessons. Call David Marchand at Metairie Country Club and get a lesson. He's the pro there but lives in Prairieville and will meet you wherever and give you lessons. He is a great teacher in addition to a great golfer.

2/ Go buy Harvey Penick's Little Red Book. Keep it with you
and red it a lot. It's short and sweet and will give you good
insight and positive thoughts as well as teach you things. It's a book I keep with me.

I'm fifty and have been playing since I was eight. I'm a ninety golfer because I don't play much but it's a game I always go back to and can still at least get around the course. I don't let it get in my head with frustration. My game is my game and I play it for me. You keep it in perspective and you will enjoy it.good luck.

I actually used to work for Mr.Marchand, good guy.

And BB504 I honestly don't know much about beginner clubs because I have never had to look at them. I don't want to give you bad advice on clubs.

I think he's about $50 an hour. Somewhere around there. Money well spent if you ask me. Just get a few and use them when you need them. I even now will get one once in awhile just for direction or perspective.

For what you are looking for the Wilson and Top Flight are both comparable. Either one.

re: Beginner set of golf clubs

k... when do you think would be the time to make the move to measured clubs?

i would never do it before a year... and if i was playing a lot.

and when that time comes what am i looking to spend?

and is playing with a women just the worst thing possible? or is it acceptable?

I can't really answer that. More qualified people here than me. I have Calloway irons with graphite shafts but they are about twenty years old. They were over a grand back then. I can only imagine what they are now. I play left handed too.

re: Beginner set of golf clubs

You are an idiot. I grew up with ten people who all went on to play at least collegiate golf and as of today only two of them have custom fitted clubs. One plays in tennis shoes with forty year old Titleist Blades that he played with when he was ten and he's scratch at the age of fifty five. All of them are no more than a two or three.
