How long a period of time are we talking about here? And I woul lean toward saying no. What is "morality" anyway? Was it really immoral of the cave man to kill his neighbor for no reason? We, in 2012, look back and say yes. But I don't know of it was really immoral at the time - everyone behaved like the cave man, so he's only acting in the same way as everyone else. Now, society has certainly become more refined over time, there's no arguing that. But we can't judge morality on past generations by the same standards that we hold today b/c OF COURSE it would be improved over time. IMO, the only way to compare morality is to compare it to the generation at hand. Otherwise, that's like arguing who the best baseball player ever was. You can't dismiss the idea that it was Babe Ruth just because of the fact that he wouldn't be able to cut it in single-A ball here in 2012. You can only compare him against his peers at the time, when he was dominant.

My generation wasn't the one that got him elected. 18-29 year olds age group is not what got Obama elected. It was the 30-64 year olds. That age group voted in much higher numbers than mine and voted for Obama as well.

Wow.

Ah, Gen WF. Great stuff. First studied it in the 70s. Posted it on this board a couple of times. But Scruffy doesn't resemble your post. He seems lucid.

ehh, I agree with most all your stances but I dont really buy this. I haven't seen the numbers, but if 18-29 year olds didn't directly help elect him, they sure didn't stand in his way much. I also doubt that demographic supported RP or Johnson, as I did, in any meaningful numbers sadly.

I'm not saying that they didn't help. They did largely vote for Obama (some 66% I think). Thee difference is that they accounted for 18% of the total votes while the other group accounted for 66% of total votes. Then again, I may be wrong and it was my generation that got him elected. Either way, that guy was angry.

That would suggest all societies at all times have had the same morality, that's "insane".
You see. The answers do provide for a good litmus test.

morals are rapidly declining. Civilized society cannot exist without morality.

Can you cite some of these improvements in morality....
Well as far as the U.S. goes one of the other posters listed out some things in the past that would essentially never happen today. Slavery Jim Crow Laws Japanese in internment camps You are seeing a trend of violent crime going down.

Not to mention, Obama is not from our generation either. He's not Gen X or Gen Y, he'd be a late baby boomer I suppose.

Depends on your perspective. I say while "morals" have changed, people generally adapt to them. Relatively the same.

If there is any improvement it is because of stress, you stress the society and things you consider immoral will appear or reappear. No internment camps but we have enhanced interrogation centers. We don't throw unwanted babies in a river or abandon them in the woods we abort them. Decades ago it was considerd immoral to avoid work and be dependent on others if it was unnecessary, it was immoral not to support your children gluttony was formerly frowned upon today it is a opportunity at the third of the month today they are the new normal

And there is a lot of public outcry from that, particularly from younger generations. I wouldn't be surprised to see those cease to exist eventually. Or they would be so secret that no one would know about their existence.

Saying they have improved is no better or worse than saying they worsened.

The under 30 set might not be big enough to elect Ogump singlehandedly, but you still supported him by a large margin and added to his mandate (and might even have given him his margin of victory). And the point still stands--you can't accuse other generations of stealing from future taxpayers when your own generation overwhelmingly endorsed that same policy. Well, you can, but you'll look like a hack.
